Hi Tatjana (and team)
i'm still loving the software and starting to get the hang of it now. Also got the propsect of trying it out with a drone next week when my brother comes to visit.
i have a few random queries for you if you'd be so kind:)

how much will the subscription cost per month?

have you thought of having a user gallery where people can post pics of their memento creations?

would it be possible to make the upload process pausable/interruptable? i have had a few uploads that i have had to do restart more than once because of a temporary connection issue

this one's not such a Memento question, rather a pricing/finance question for other Autodesk products. I see you like to offer a wide range of payment options but could you do something along the line of a payment plan to purchase a standalone license of 3ds Max? so that when the plan is finished/paid off, the customer will own a stand alone license. I really want to incorporate Max into my workflow but at the moment affording the monthly subscription is a little out of my reach. The other reason i ask is that if i was to rent a license for a few years (totalling the standalone license price) and then for some reason stop the subscription, i would lose use of the program. But if i had used that money to purchase my own license, i could use it indefinately. I realise the subscription includes the 'use' of the software and any updates, so making it so the software/license cannot be used until the balance is cleared sounds like a good compromise. what are your thoughts on this?

thanks,
Sam

Samk186,

No, we have not announced pricing for Memento yet.  Sorry I don't have more info to share at this time.  Our focus in this period is learning about what people like you find value in, where you need us to improve the value, and what types of uses cases we should focus on.

Yes, we have thought of a user gallery where people can share content.  We agree that's a great idea and we would love to have people like you share your awesome content.  I'm really curious what everyone is doing with Memento.  Stay tuned.

Regarding the "rent to own" purchase/financing suggestion for 3DS Max we have no plans to implement that type of business model.  While that business model exists in other industries I've never seen it used with software.  There are options for software like 3ds Max to fully purchase a permanent license up front, or to subscribe to the current version over the term of a subscription period (renewable), but not a combination of those concepts.  One alternative that blends the concepts would to use some form of 3rd party credit/financing (credit card, bank loan, etc.) where you purchase a permanent license but pay over time.  The disadvantage of course to that approach is that you wouldn't have the current version over time and you'd be committed to continued payments until the permanent license is paid off through the financing bank (even if you are no longer finding product value).  That's why there is increasing interest in subscription models: you get a lower upfront cost, you can cancel at any time if you don't find value, and you get continuous updates while on the subscription to improve the value over time.  In other words with subscription you only pay if you find value.

Hi,

>>would it be possible to make the upload process pausable/interruptable? i have had a few uploads that i have had to do restart more than once because of a temporary connection issue

Regarding this issue, we will add pause/resume functionality in Sept-Oct release.

Meanwhile, a clunky workaround is to create a new project and use A360 folder that has the uploaded images (hence you don't have to upload the photos all over again)

Murali

awesome, thanks guys:)

that 'clunky workaround' is just what i was after

i can understand you not offering the financing solution i was after. it was rather specific,

the main reasons i wont go for the subscirption are:  i cannot always afford £174 a month to rent it (i can some months, but not others as my income fluctuates considerably).  but once i adapt Max into my pipeline i will want to use it always, not just if i have a good month and have the available funds.

the constant updates and tech support that come with subs would be of little use to me as i only intend to use it for the modelling tools and doing the occaisional product render.  from using it when i was at university i know what i want from the package.

it's a bit of a catch 22 situation, as i know using Max will increase my income but dont have the available funds to purchase it, i tried my bank but computer said no.  i have just noticed that you will no longer offer perpeptual licesnses come january, so i better think of something fast:)

thanks for your responses

The concept of the monthly license rental is more for hobbyists or very short term project work for a month here or there over the year.  The quarterly is more for "sprint" type projects where you might pick up some side work covering a deadline.  Anything more regular should be using the yearly cost.

If you intend to use the program (any paid software, really) to generate income then you need to factor the costs of operating into what you charge clients for work.  That includes licensing, purchasing new hardware every 4 years or so, utilities, internet services, taxes, accountant, loan repayment, and so many others.  Mission-critical software needs to be paid for - you can't get around that, so it must be factored in to the budget.  Not having a good budget is one of the top reasons why so many businesses fail in their first year.  Know your costs, then you will know how much money has to come in to cover them.  Don't forget to pay yourself either - thats one of the other prime causes of failure.

If you are going to fly by the seat of your pants, expect friction burns.
"I don't know" is the beginning of knowledge, not the end.
