I agree VR functionality should be included as well in the base ReCap package. However, It appears ReCap Pro has not added new software features in recent releases. Just taken away functionality. (MESH, etc...) I understand ReCap's SDK support for outside groups and technology is supposed to be the future of ReCap. OK, this is good. However, there are certain basic software tools that should be in the base package.
VR & auto white target recognition for better registrations are two simple examples.
As of this writing, Cintoo.com provides VR, meshing, validation, and many other very important reality capture features. ReCap supports Cintoo with a working version of a SDK. However, ReCap's SDK does not support changes to the scan files. So I can not clean up my source file by eliminating people, traffic, and other noise? Come on Autodesk!!! Really?!?!? If my comment is in error then please correct my posting. If my comment is accurate then please post a date when this important need will be implemented.
We need a functional SDK for the Cintoo cloud platform ASAP.
@LyleHardin Meant to say "Future Consideration". We understand the use case of this capability but trying to weigh in with the other high-value items. Also, now that Recap Pro can generate meshes that can be exported to VR applications, do you still feel this needs to be a feature in Recap pro?
I think it would still be very useful, yes. To be able to VR walk/fly through a point cloud while having the model in there is a very valuable tool. Even taking a walk/fly through the point cloud without a model in it has been useful to us. Perhaps providing a VR feature in Navisworks that supports point clouds may make more sense. Creating a usable Mesh from an entire manufacturing plant is just not feasible.
After experimenting with the Scan to Mesh for use in VR, I'm not a big fan. The Scan to Mesh tool for brining the mesh into Revit works okay, but the mesh in Revit is similar to the old nwd underlays. They are there, but basically useless. They don't show up well in prints, you can't snap or dimension to them. Meh. I'm generally disappointed.
Thanks for your feedback on the new Revit features. One of the key features that differentiates it to the NWD underlays is the add to document feature - this lets you inject some objects into the Revit project. Not useful for a whole manufacturing plant - but a huge time saver for complex objects.
This feature is also in active development at the moment so I am eager to gather requirements for the next steps.
I agree that snapping (so you can measure or remodel) would be a nice feature + enhancements to how they look in the underlays. Is there any other feature you would like to see?
