Recap and Virtual Reality (vr)

Recap and Virtual Reality (vr)

So, I have taken up the idea of 3d laser scanning our Substations with a Leica BLK360 utilising Recap Pro on the iPad for the transfer of data through to my workstation.  This workflow is fine and I can complete 1 substation a day.  My next hurdle is to display this point cloud in a VR headset such as the HTC Vive.  The only way I have been able to achieve this to date is to export the Recap project to 357 format, import this to Faro Scene LT, produce a Project Point Cloud within this piece of software then view it in there using Steam VR.  This works fine for my purposes but I am trying to simplify this process.  Ideally I would be able to view the point cloud in the same manner but inside Recap.  Is this on the road map for Recap or am I just going to have to have 3 sets of data for the one point cloud?

We have the same work flow as 'cadsupport', but we usually use SCENE to register the scans. It has more capabilities to fine tune the registration and results in a tighter fitting point cloud. Then we export to ReCap for use in AutoCAD and Revit.  But, we too, would like to see ReCap support VR.

Nothing beats walking through the point cloud in VR to revisit the site to look at difficult areas.

Hello, little late to the party here, but I was wondering how were you viewing points clouds in steam VR? Is their an app in it or something? My company is trying to do VR point cloud viewing using the Valve index.

Hi ZachmFRN3X,

I managed this by exporting the point cloud to an e57 file and importing it into Faro Scene LT (a free one from Faro) making a project out of it, creating a project point cloud then clicking the View VR button...

Works well with my HTC Vive

Anyone still talking about this? I just purchased a quest 3 and would like to do the same thing with my scan.

@aruddGE5YE Can we catch up on this to get some understanding of how exactly ReCap can support this?

Another one late to the party :slightly_smiling_face:

Just wonder if there are any news on this.

Being able to connect my Quest 3 directly to Recap would be great.
