Promote more than one ReCap mesh to Revit Family

Promote more than one ReCap mesh to Revit Family

I need the ability to be able to Promote more than just one mesh to Revit family in the ReCap plugin for Revit.
Right now, I can only promote one at a time and when I go to combine them into a single family, the origins are reset and no way to put the pieces back together again currently.

Thoughts?
Am I doing something wrong?

If I choose only one like shown below, I'm able to perform Promote to Family:

Promote - Can.png

If I choose more than one as shown below, I'm unable to run Promote to Family:

Promote - Cannot.png

It breaks when trying to combine the two after the fact due to reset origins.
Because of this, we're stuck with SketchUp models for now.

Autodesk, you're so close on this one!
Just one more feature and I can totally use this!

@thernandezCM9EV Thanks for bringing this up! We hear you and are working on enhancing this feature.

To clarify the ask, what you are looking to do is bring multiple objects of different classifications (in your case, the trunk as one object, the rest of the tree as another object - and inject them into a single Revit Family?

Thanks again,

Yes, I run the merge and classify command and categorize with layers, but as I can only Promote to Family one mesh at a time, it's not a viable option for us right now when they don't line up anymore and it's impossible to get them back to the way they were with each family obtaining a new origin.
It would be awesome if we could bypass the Project environment all together and run all this in the family environment, but not sure what's going on there.

As always, thanks for your help in this venture and can't wait to see this in action soon!
Cheers!

I just spoke to Lance Coffey and he had another idea that would help in this case, I think.
Could you also add the feature to include textures on export to .rcmr file?
That way we could stick to the single mesh when we use it for Twinmotion.
I think for Revit, I'd also stick to a solid grey for existing trees, but for proposed trees I'd definitely need the colored alternative.

Food for thought at this point.
Thanks again!
Cheers!

Thanks very much for the extra detail!! Noted on all of those points, including the texturing. That's pretty high on our wishlist too!

One work around for an individual object through Revit is you could export your tree as an OBJ, and import this as a CAD object into the Family you have created - align it, and then delete the grey tree (this would mean its in the right place). There is an "Export Selection" option from the mesh editor, so you can just click on the tree and export just that.

As you mention Twinmotion - you can also push a GLTF out of the Mesh Editor, which can drop straight into a Twinmotion project. This holds it real world color + its geolocation so should fit right up against your Revit model for a good quality visualisation.

Thanks again, some very helpful insight 😄 !
