Vertical gaps in pointcloud upon zoom in

Vertical gaps in pointcloud upon zoom in

Anonymous
Not applicable

When I zoom in I get a series of vertically spaced gaps in my pointcloud.  This is very annoying as I can't see any detail in my scan.  Is this likely a graphics card problem or something in the settings I've missed?

I should point out that upon export to AutoCAD (.rcs) everything is fine, its just in Recap that I see this phenomenom.

I am running:

DELL Precision M4600

NVIDIA Quadro 2000M GPU

Intel i7-2720QM CPU

24GB Ram

Could you try to use "update origin tool" to re-define the origin to see if it helps? Thanks!

Yes that works, Thank you!

My coordinates are around the 150000,300000m area.  I can try shifting the survey coords closer to the origin in future.

We also noticed this problem and have noted the solution.

Can anyone explain why large co-ordinate values don't work well in Recap? As surveyors in the UK working with 6 figure OS co-ordinate systems based on GPS is the norm. I know Pointools used to shift projects to a "local" grid for some good reason, but I've never really understood why.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

This should be automatically fixed during import in the current release, or in the next one that is coming out soon.

Thank you for your posts and for using ReCap,

Mitko

I'm using Recap rather than Recap Pro.  I have a project that I referenced to survey control with large coordinates in FARO Scene.  If I update the origin the pointcloud displays much better but I lose the coordinate values referenced to my survey control.  Is there any way to temporaritly update the origin but revert to the original origin so that my project is referenced correctly to the world?

When should we expect the update which will fix this issue?

Never mind I guess.  I see that the large coordinates are still available in the scanorama view.  I assume they will also still be available when I import the scans into autocad or revit.  Correct?

It would still be nice to see the coordinates in the Recap 3d View.

If you import the .rcs files into autoCAD or Revit, the large coordinates will still be available. If you export the visible points in ReCap to another RCS file and then import it into AutoCAD or Revit, the large coordinates will be lost.

When I save the reorigined point cloud as an .RCP, when I import this into Revit it does NOT retain the reorigin nor any other changes that I have made. Am I missing something?

Changes that I have made in the past have retained in the RCP file when I insert them into Revit.

Update origin in ReCap doesn't change .rcs file. We will fix this issue in later release. Revit currently ignore the "update origin" information when reading RCP file. If you want to keep the update origin information, you can export it to another rcs file and then re-import it into Revit. Thanks, Yan

Thanks for the reply. I discovered this workaround after installing SP1. if you can, please, tell me why ReCap no longer retains point cloud deletion changes in the RCP file. I used this functionality at one time but it has stopped.

Do you mean the deletion area re-appears in Revit or in ReCap? I have just tested with ReCap. The deletion change is saved in RCP.

When inserted into Revit or AutoCAD.
