That post you directed us to literally just states that the service is being turned off, nothing about if or when it will be turned back on.  This was a service we relied on, some actual feedback of what we are to do now that you have stopped it would be nice.

Hi @ian.strawn,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I don't have more information about when development team is planning to bring it back. I am really sorry for any inconvenience.

How could one accept this as a solution, when no solution is provided?!

You've crippled the software, with no way for users to get the features back.

At least give us the options to do  scan to mesh or mesh cleanup locally... as it should be in the first place.

Why is Autodesk so screwed up on this scanning technology?  You killed the phone app 123d catch, then Memento, next was Remake, then Recap, then Recap Pro gave you Recap Photo for photogrammetry.  You know when I tell people I've been using AutoCAD since the the late 80's, they know what I'm talking about because they never changed the name and they didn't screw the users by removing services.  So now we have to generate meshes in software like CloudCompare, 3DF Zephyr, CaptureReality, or other super expensive software for the point cloud to mesh generation.  I'm very disappointed at this department within Autodesk.  I hope you one day get your act together so all those universities and people who make videos on your behalf, don't have to eat their words when they say it's your products being used to scan archaeological sites and it's being used for architectural preservation.  Also the engineering community who wants ReCap meshes to export into STL for Fusion 360 to capture cross section profiles so new parametric models can be build over scans.  Anyways, it looks to me that your department just decided to quit.  Or maybe it was the decision of a typical VP in these corporate environments.  No matter what happened, the other departments at Autodesk have their act together and are moving forward with good products and services.  No way are you getting $40 a month from me when you can only view and crop point clouds.

Why is so difficult to get information from your development team, are you not allowed to speak to them?

I have my fingers crossed that it will be hopefully added back based on the email I received regarding the subscription renewal. The cost of the yearly plan is going up:

"Autodesk is adjusting our pricing to more accurately reflect the value we have added to your subscription and to make room for exciting improvements coming your way.
It continues to be our mission to deliver to you powerful, industry-leading technology at fair prices. In order to maintain this level of value and pave the way for new improvements, we are constantly reinvesting customer spend back into Autodesk software. Visit our Idea Station to learn more about how we do this."

Does anyone have any real updates on this yet. I'm stuck with a bunch of point clouds i need converted to mesh and no good solution. All of the suggestions from autodesk to use other software is a pretty garbage response. And i have tried but with no luck. Why else would we use recap?

If they at least gave us an indication on what is happening it would be better than nothing.

Hey AUTODESK - How about some sort of update?

"Anyways, it looks to me that your department just decided to quit. Or maybe it was the decision of a typical VP in these corporate environments. No matter what happened, the other departments at Autodesk have their act together and are moving forward with good products and services."

I agree with this comment wholeheartedly.  Smiley Mad

[copied from another thread on this topic]:

For those on this thread that we've inconvenienced by removing the meshing feature, I apologize.  We sometimes add beta features to the product to help us determine the priority of such a feature in a full feature release.  As you were probably aware, this feature had its limitations with the number of scans and overall volume that you could convert to a mesh.  The information that we gathered from its use will help the team prioritize it against other feature and defect fixes in future updates and releases.  It may also help us in working with partners who are creating full-features scan-to-mesh tools to help direct their solutions too.

That's nice that there is some remorse

But...

This removed feature is still used to lure people into purchasing, even those who do their due diligence. Hell, even the help topics for recap 2019 still reference it!!!

Also this!!!   "As you were probably aware, this feature had its limitations with the number of scans and overall volume that you could convert to a mesh"

Both these limitations, which i believe where arbitrary limitations, place on the uploads, to accommodate a poor cloud processing service, where if this service was part of the recap executable on the client computer, it would not matter to us if it took a day to complete. But probably this it the what is being "prioritize", yet another perpetual service to harvest revenue form the broken spirits of Autodesk User

I've been frustrated with AutoDesk decision making for years.  It boggles the mind.

With their resources, they could have made this the most comprehensive point cloud toolset in existence.  I've made suggestions for years imploring them to take the next logical step in the evolution of this product, to no avail.

My impression is the techs and software engineers would love to be turned loose.  I assume the higher up muckity-mucks and bean counters prevent that from happening.  They think small/short term.  AutoDesk has awesome people, but the ultimate decision makers are far from impressive.

Thank you for the post but this is highly frustrating and as pointed out poorly communicated.

Can you please advise what process and software Autodesk currently suggest for getting a .rcp file into Inventor as a 3D model?

If there is no Autodesk software with the complete functionality to do this please advise what software you do advise us to use.

Thank You.

I actually just installed recap because of all the tutorials I found about the mesh feature. I am totaly new to 3D scanning and I just spend an hour searching google why I didn't have the Data Services menu. So disappointing and time consuming.

Very bad points here Autodesk...

To stop this feature was a VERY bad idea!

We will kick out the Autodesk product and use a working software.
