Slow Import of FLS Files

Slow Import of FLS Files

I have 19 FLS files to import and register in Recap Pro, scanned at 1/4 resolution (each file is approximately 185MB each. It takes about 5 minutes per scan on the initial import just in order to register.

Recap only seems to utilize a small percentage of the processors available (under 10 percent) and 5GB of RAM. Is there any way to speed up this process at all?? This makes for a really painful registration, unless I leave my machine for almost 2 hours just for the initial import.

Any room to improve this??

Of course, there's always room for improvement. One of the biggest issues during import is often data transfer. For instance, using a solid state drive can help speed things up considerably. Specifically regarding import, because we have to work with 3rd party libraries (in this case Faro's) we can't always optimize things as much as we'd like to be able to, but speeding up the processes to the best of our abilities is always on our list of things to improve.

That is the biggest challenge for Recap. It takes 2-3 times longer to process the data in Recap than capturing it on the field. The biggest issue is, that the software is only one thread of the CPU.

2:47 for a scan in 1/4 2 times quality (FARO Focus 3D)

5 minutes for converting from FARO format to RC-Format

a few seconds for registration

2 minutes for indexing

summery:

3 minutes for grey scaled scan with 44mio points

7.5 minutes for processing time
