Recap to civil3D

Dears, I am using the Autodesk Recap Pro version 4.0.0.28 to edit a point cloud fille generated from image processing using the PIX4d mapper pro.

When i deleted part of the points and attach it to the Autodesk civil3D 2018 version 12.0.842.0 the location is correct as was previously when the point cloud file was complete and unedited.

Hi @engsabbagh,

Are you saying that when you import Point Cloud into Civil 3D its not supposed to align correctly? I am but confuse her. Would you be able to provide detail information or workflow to understand this behavior better?

Thank you and have a great day!!!

Hi @engsabbagh

I am unable to duplicate this behavior on my end. I did following:

1. Create new ReCap Project

2. Import RCP to Civil 3D

3. Open ReCap Project, delete some point

4. Save As different name

5. Import New RCP to Civil 3D

6. Both RCP align correctly.

Please, let me know if you are doing above mention workflow? Would you be able to record (screencast) of this behavior and share with me to investigate this further.

Thank you and have a great day!!!

Dear Anil,

The workflow that I am following:

1-Open empty Civil3d

2- From Insert->AutoCAD Point Cloud->Attach- the complete .rcp model:"AUB1_import Civil3d1.rcp"

3-From Insert->AutoCAD Point Cloud->Autodesk Recap->opened the "AUB1_import Civil3d1.rcp"-delete part of the model and save it in another name :

"AUB1_import Civil3d1_oneBldg.rcp"

4-From Insert->AutoCAD Point Cloud->Attach- the complete .rcp model:"AUB1_import Civil3d1_oneBldg.rcp"

5- in the civil3d file "AUB1_import Civil3d1.dwg" the two .rcp are not align correctly.

I attached the civil3d

Thank you very much

Hi @engsabbagh,

Thank you for sharing Civil 3D drawing but this file is missing point cloud data. Would you be able to share your ReCap project with supporting files?

If you can then let me know and will send you BOX invite.

Thank you and have a great day!!!!

OP,

If you're cropping in ReCap, then re-indexing upon export, you will need to make sure your coordinate zone is set and your origin is in the same location as it was before it was cropped.

It sounds to me like the origin is being misplaced upon crop.

Another option is to crop within Civil 3D using the temporary crops, or by turning scans on or off by using the point cloud manager (POINTCLOUDMANAGER) for an indexed scan.

Dear Henry,

You mentioned the following : "you will need to make sure your coordinate zone is set and your origin is in the same location as it was before it was cropped. "

Hi @engsabbagh,

Sorry I don't have any update on this. I send you message requesting to upload ReCap project support folder for further investigation. RCP that you shared is no good without support folder. Also, have you tried suggestion that was posted by @garretthenry09. Please, let me know if that helps.

Thank you and have a great day!!!

Here's an explanation on where you can set the coordinate system:

ReCap Import Settings

If you change the origin, then export, your coordinate system will be thrown off.

Here is a link to an explanation about working with point clouds inside of AutoCAD (or any other vertical product):

About Working With Point Clouds

Hopefully you'll find what you're looking for there

Hi @engsabbagh,

Support folder supporting RCS files to view project. If you navigate to your project location in Windows explores you will see support folder with project name which contains several supporting files.

Thank you and have a great day!!!
