Recap to CAD (.dwg)

Hello everyone,

I'm using Recap ultimate and I got the 3D model of the some pictures. I got .rcm, .rcs, and .obj files from recap.

In order to do some calculations on the 3D, I may need to manipulate the 3D in a .dwg file. Is there any chance for me to change my 3D to a mesh or a solid in any way?

There is no automatic conversion to DWG.  But each of those three files might be able to help you:

- RCM is a Memento file containing the mesh output.  Memento can be used to edit the mesh, prepare it for printing, etc.  It can also export to a bunch of formats.

- RCS is a ReCap point cloud file.  You can attach this to a DWG and use the point cloud as a reference for modeling or drafting.

- OBJ is an interchange format containing the mesh geometry.  You can import this to a number of thirdparty software to work with the mesh.

Regarding .rcm and Memento, Is there any chance I can export from Memento to soemthing which I can open in AutoCAD?

Hi Behrouz,

Since AutoCAD cannot read meshes, you will have to work with a point cloud model in AutoCAD.

That is an RCS file which you can export from Memento, or just directly import it from ReCap.

You can Export RCM as FBX in Memento and import the FBX in AutoCAD to convert it to DWG. I Recommend to decrease the meshes by at least 60% when converting to FBX.

Thanks for that. I've started using Autodesk 123D catch to see how I can go with that. It has great capabilities in changing my photos inot .dwg.
