Hi

I have some data exported from Cyclone to PTG and imported to Recap 360.

When i enter the realview globe, it looks like the image below.  I understand the black is where there is poor scan data, but ive never seen it look like this before.

anyone come across this or any help?

Thank you for reporting.

I'll ask the team and see what can be done.

Could you try to set the "filter scans" option in scan setting from Standard to minimal to see if it improves the result?

hi this screenshot was taken with those settings on import.

can this be something to do with using an iStar and scanning with a P40 (Leica)?

Probably. What the black lines are is what we call "death" pixels. Pixels that don't have any 3D data behind them (x 0.0 y 0.0 z 0.0) and are marked with black in RealView.

thanks

i will do some more testing, as im sure it is related to the colouring of the point cloud

I have been having the same issue with Recap.

When I register in Faro Scene software, everything looks fine, I can go to the planar views there are no death pixels and the sky shows in the background.

When I export to Recap I get "death pixels"

Some of our clients like to mark up Recap Realview screenshots, and they have complained about the death pixels, and that the sky doesn’t show.

Would I be correct in saying the sky will never show in the Recap Realview since there is no actual 3d data associated with it?

Thanks

If you do any cropping, deleting point cloud data in Faro Scene this will happen.

To avoid this you can use Faro scene just for registration and use Save As new FLS files to bring all the scans in ReCap.

The RealViews should come intact and you can do any edits to the point cloud in there with the free ReCap version.

Best,

Mitko

I didn't crop anything or delete any pointcloud data.

I just register in Scene, then export to Recap.

We have also  brought the FLS files in the way you said and we still get the death pixels and no sky in the background.

We have the latest Recap 360 but I haven't had time to register any scans with it yet.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Hi @Anonymous: what version of SCENE are you using?  The behavior you describe is not expected, but we are seeing it now with the SDK installed with SCENE 6.0 (see my post at the top of the forum about it).

We are recommending to avoid using SCENE 6 on the same machine as ReCap (or to export to RCP) until FARO has fixed this.

Yes, we are using Scene 6.

I will go back to the old version for now.

I have been trying to figure out if it is a Scene problem, Recap problem, computer problem or scanner problem.

Thanks

We have been processing scans for the the past 4yrs and never had these black pixel until about 1 months ago it is def a recap 2017 problem we have scanned multiple projects  recently and thought it was a field settings on the trimble scanner. we have played around and tried dif settings with resolution and 3X and 4X  indoor and outdoor settings. we have finally went back to recommended indoor settings and are still coming up with black pixels. It looks like maybe recap is changed the view settings instead of looking at a panoramic picture we are in the 3d model with a picture overlayed causing the black pixels..? Point clouds are indexing just fine and final import into autocad is just fine. Our clients use recap as a free viewer to view there projects and gives our work a lesser quality appearance. this is not something we want to hand over to our clients.. Autodesk please fix right away.

Can you post an example of the image?

There could be two causes of this:

  1. You have a buggy version of the FARO SDK (the main topic of this thread).
  2. You are using a max range filter and an older version of ReCap.  There was a bug in 2017/3.0 that caused pixels filtered by the min/max range filter to lose their RGB.

The best way to fix both/either of these is to install the latest (3.1) ReCap release.  You will need to re-import the data, sadly.

Hope this helps,

-Ryan

I've had the same issue with the pixels but it was fixed after the update, I'm not sure why it happened but at same settings and same scans but with different computers I would get one with the "death" pixels and the other one on standard view, so it may be related with the computer itself and not the scanner or the recap settings.

I am looking at this exact scenario on this project I started. How do I get Realview to look photo quality and not like it is in sketch mode?

Hi @lilie.klar ,

What is your scan type? Is it also from Faro?

Have you tried to install the latest Faro SDK?

Thanks,

Yan

@yan.fu  Thank you for replying, I am checking with the technician who created the pointcloud to see if what the scan type is and if it is indeed from Faro. I'll let you know if the Faro SDK is the fix.
