Reality Capture API

Hi,

We are long term customers of the Autodesk Forge platform, and we have recently seen that they have added the Reality Capture API to the Forge collection. I have browsed through their documentation related to "Create a 3D Mesh from Photos" (LINK)

A “photoscene” is a container for a photo-to-3D project. Before you upload images to be converted, you need to create a photoscene with the necessary metadata (only scenename is a mandatory field).

Could anyone on this forum very kindly elaborate for me what they mean by "Step 2: Create a Photoscene" and how we would do this (and what equipment needed) if we were to try?

Hi,

It sounds like you are looking for information about making a UAV capture. For some general guidelines, you may refer to https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/recap/learn-explore/caas/simplecontent/content/uav-fly-featur...

Necessary equipment:

  1. UAV/drone - New to drone flying?

    1. 3DR offers Site Scan software that automatically flies your drone across the coordinates necessary to collect enough data to create a 3D point cloud. With Site Scan, you will be proposed to select from a list or predefined flight paths, making the photo collection process very easy.

    2. Other vendors such as DJI (http://www.dji.com/) have an extensive list of UAVs for sale, that all come with an app (DJI Go) to control the device.

  2. Camera

    1. Most drones come with a quality camera that should work well for your photogrammetry projects.

    2. The better quality camera you have, the better the results. We don’t recommend using cameras with a fisheye lens.

    3. Don’t shoot video; shoot photos in time lapse mode.
