RCS / RCP file format documentation

Hi,

wanted to ask if there exists a documentation about the RCP and RCS file format.

We would need that for displaying (and doing calculations) with pointclouds in our software (e.g. to show differences between planed geometry and real geometry), currently we have to convert it to other formats, but that does not really make sense as it is time consuming without any advantage.

Thx in advance, - alfred -

I am not aware of any documentation for RCP/RCS file format but let me check with development team if they have any.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi Anil,

>> I am sorry but I haven't find any information yet

Thank you for your efforts, what can the next step be to get the information? "Not found" is not the same as "not available".

@anil_mistry

Any news on this?

We have again a new project where we would need this documentation, but have not got a real answer ("not found" does not necessarily mean "does not exist").

Thx, - alfred -

As the OP requests, will Autodesk document the RCS Binary File Format.  Many have successfully determined the format anyway, so it's not really an industry secret anymore.  And don't require the use of the Recap SDK, a 500mb pile of bloat that's also only provided to those that Autodesk sees fit.

If Autodesk documents the RCS Binary format, it will be well on it's way to being used across the industry.  Attempts to keep it proprietary will result in another lost war like PDF vs DWF.  We all know how that turned out.
