RCP VS RCS

Curious if anyone knows and difference with working with RCP unified point clouds VS RCS unified point clouds? I hear RCS are smaller files, but do all the point cloud tools in auto cad still function? 

Example:

Find center of object

Find plane

Regions ect?

RCP is ReCap project file, storing meta data information of the project. 

The point cloud is still in unified .rcs file.
