raw scan data

Our final purpose is to import raw scan data right into recap and then export the .rcp of .rcs file into naviswork, inventor, autocad… . This works fine for scan data from Faro. I have read that this is also possible for scans from Z+F, but is it also possible for Leica or other producers?

Kindly regards,

Tom

Tom,

We support scan data from most scanners.  The main detail is whether the original scanner produces and provides structured data.  This is common from most tripod-based scanners (such as from Faro and Z+F).  For Leica, we support structured data from their P16 scanner, but that is the only one that we are able to support at this time.  We also support the PTX interchange format.

For unstructured data, we support several interchange formats including PTX, PTS, and E57.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi All,

We are currently having an issue with creating mirror balls in recap.

We are capturing data with a Leica P30, registering in cyclone and then exporting a ptx or ptg file into recap.

The point cloud and mirror ball locations come through fine in recap and the mirror balls open up. The problem we are having is that the image inside the mirror ball seems to be only overlaid on the points captured from that station rather than showing the full image. For example areas of high reflectivity, puddles, sky, or just areas too far from the scanner where points haven’t been captured show up as black areas. It makes for a poor quality viewing experience.

The truview from cyclone for the same data shows the full image and looks fine. When we have processed data from a Faro in scene and then recap in the past it has brought through the full image. It seems to only be a problem going from cyclone to recap.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Are there any solutions or work around?

As the previous post is quite old, is there any possibility with the last version of Recap 360 pro to import raw data from any other Leica Scanner not only from P16?

Thank you,

Almudena.

Hi @Anonymous,

It seems like this is due the fact that Cyclone doesn't export the color on the filtered points.

We should bring this to their attention.

Did you ever figure this out.   I am scanning with a faro and trying to get registered in cyclone, then get into recap 360 with mirror balls with the scanner pictures in the mirror balls not a picture of the colored point cloud.  Thanks.

When you see the black inside the mirror ball, that is a colored point cloud not the original photo from the scanner.  Thank for any help.

To be clear - ReCap does not deal directly with photos for any scan type.  FLS files appear more 'photo-realistic' because the FLS format contains color information for every measurement in the scan (even those for which there is no XYZ/range data).  This makes the RealView appear 'full' - but it's still just a colored point cloud, not a photo.

Anyway - what you're seeing is a limitation in the formats available to go from Cyclone->ReCap.  Specifically, the color information for filtered measurements is not available in PTX, PTG, or E57.  Unfortunately there's really nothing we can do on the ReCap side to fix this directly.

You might be able to work around the problem as follows:

  1. Import your project from Cyclone (PTG/E57 or whatever) - ('Project A').
  2. Create a separate project with the raw FLS files ('Project B')
  3. Copy the RCC files from Project B Support to Project A Support.
  4. Clear the temporary cache folder for Project A.
  5. Open Project A - once regenerated, the RealViews should look like the FLS files.

The above is not officially supported but might work.

Hi,

Yes it does work!! It is a bit of a process and renaming files but it works.

Thank you!
