Ortho TIFF Image File Size from ReCap Photo project

When we process in Recap Photo to get Aerials, the TIFF image comes back looks really good.  The problem is, on even small sites the aerials are 1/2 Gig-1 Gig in file size.   When we bring these into our CAD programs they slow everything down to the point it is hardly functional.   We are looking at doing longer corridor projects and right now the current method won't work and we are searching alternate solutions.   If we try Recap Photo on the longer corridor the other  problem is it comes in as 1 big aerial and we typically see aerials broken up into tiles so they are easier to manage on larger projects.

Hi @btremblay,

Thank you for participating in our Community! Usually ortho TIFF files are large in size. I would suggest to break it down your project in smaller area then generate ortho TIFF, then you may have to use AutoCAD or Civil 3D to combine them. Let me know if this helps.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi @btremblay,

I'm just checking in again to see if you need more help with this. Did the suggestion I provided yesterday work for you?

Recap Photo allows us to create:

A Mesh

A Point Cloud

An ortho photo

...upon creation of the project.

Is there a way to go back and re-export another ortho photo at a different resolution? We use Drone Deploy, and we can specify whatever resolution we want and create as many ortho exports as we want.

Also, as the OP states, the orthos Recap creates are entirely too cumbersome. These are not grossly huge project areas. Raster Design tells me that "the image has different pixel scales in horizontal and vertical", and if I would like to rubbersheet the image. If I say no, I'm stuck with the original projection of the image. If I say yes, I can just go ahead and Ctrl-Alt-Delete and End Process, because Civil 3D is about to go on a long, long hibernation.  This tiff is only 300MB in size. Keep in mind, these images are coming directly from Recap Photo.

So to sum up, I would like to use Recap as our standard workflow instead of Drone Deploy, but:
Is there a way to export multiple resolutions from a Recap Photo project (without paying for a complete new project...)?

Why is Recap Photo creating an orthomosaic photo with "different pixel scales" that Raster Design and Civil 3D can't handle?

Why, if I don't rubbersheet the image, is it coming in Raster Design as Lat/Long? If I choose to "transform" to another projection, it will kill AutoCAD/Civil 3D.

Please let me know if I'm horribly mistaken. Thanks.
