Navigation bug in Recap 2023

Recap 23.0.0.258 appears to have a navigation issue.  When scrolling mouse wheel (orbit mode) a limit is reached and no further zoom/fly is possible.  At this limit, panning is not possible.  Also, orbiting used to rotate about the point under the cursor, but now appears to orbit about the center of the project.  Odd behavior in orthographic view as well.  This renders Recap almost unusable.  Can someone from the Autodesk Team comment please?

Hi sreed,

Thanks for reporting the issue with ReCap. Can you reproduce the issue with AutodeskReCapSampleProject? Do you have video to illustrate the issue?

This should not require a screenshot recording on a sample file. Just try it yourself by scrolling in across a large project. It reaches some asymtotic limit in Recap2023, at which point panning is impossible. Many online WebGL sites have this same behavior, but its unusable in Recap. Also, the pivot point is not on a point under the cursor now, but is somewhat random in space, making it very difficult to rotate about a known point. Often a simple rotation throws the whole project off screen. Finally, the limit box handlers are very finicky. You cannot adjust the boundary from an ortho perspective. And it quickly reverts to manual entry (numbers), which prevents sliding box edges. This is a new problem.
A longstanding frustration that is NOT new to 2023 is that the limit box cannot be rotated (Ctrl-click) about the z axis if viewing in ortho from top down - undfortunately this is the only view that is effective in rotating the clipping box about Z!

I really hope this will be addressed very soon. I'm contemplating going back to Recap2022.

Hi @sreed ,

I just tried in a few projects and also a sample project and I am not being able to reproduce this in FY23. I tried both 3D view and Real View for this. Possible to know how large of a project is this? I also see the orbit is just below the curser and helps orbit around that point.

Thanking You.

We are getting the same issue, where the pivot point wont snap to point cloud so the orbit seems to be centered for the whole recap project

Instead of convincing recap team that there is a problem (pan, zoom, rotate) I just reverted to Recap22. Also solves the issue of needing Pro to export Unified. And 22 doesn’t hang so long exporting select regions.
Unfortunately I think 23 was a big step backward for recap team. Especially before hotfix addressing transformation error!! Cmon Adesk team!!

Another user recommended closing and restarting Recap to resolve the "rotation point" issue.  Indeed, that has worked every time i (am forced to) do that.  Workaround, but workable...  Hope this helps.

BTW Recap Team,  Why is multi-thread/core processing buried in a hotfix and not a minor (or even major) update?  It is a very welcome improvement and greatly speeds our projects.  Thank you!!

Hi @EUROPEANPROJECT @sreed ,

We are working on a fix for the issue for ReCap 2024.

Also regarding the Parallel import, it was an update 23.1 and not a hotfix. Initially was planned for FY23 but was pushed for further testing until our major .1 update. We have been having one major update for each year around October.

Thanking You.
