I used to be able to do what is described in the attached file in AutoCAD Civil 2015; that is, create a point cloud index that could then be filtered out for the ground.
What are we supposed to do now? This is missing in AutoCAD Civil 2016.
In regard to Jon's question; try LASTOOLS and ArcMap. LASTOOLS you can get pro bono from http://rapidlasso.com/lastools/
I have used these successfully considering ReCAP still does nothing with regard to using the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) standard for point cloud classifications that every other GIS product uses. AutoCAD Civil has (or perhaps had - it better still be there when I check) the ability to read the classification but filtering may be a lost cause. I am checking with some self built workflows to see what I can do without Civil 2015.
A strong suggestion is to get the the Point Cloud Index creation tool back into Civil 3D where one could read LAS files directly AND to to ge ReCAP reading and filtering the ASPRS classifications ASAP just like LASTOOLS do.
