I started watching >>>Simplifying Point Cloud Workflows with Automation<<<. It's the second video I've watched about how to use ReCap to generate linework. John Sayre seems to think nothing need be explained about "Desktop Connector" and "Publishing". He even sniffs that he doesn't see any reason to keep going over this "self evident and intuitive" software. I gave up on this video at about 14 minutes.
I guess everyone but me is happily "working in the cloud", but I have no idea how to go about this, or even if I would want to. There is no such thing as "the cloud". There is only my computer and someone else's computer. I prefer to keep things on my computer.
One of my biggest gripes about software, and this is by no means exclusive to Autodesk, is the torturous learning process. If something seems worth learning, I use the "click, click, click" method of fumbling around the software. Mostly it yields no results and I move on. But it sure would be nice to see some Start-Here Tutorials that don't have to be Google-mined.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the feedback on the learning content.
One thing John and the team have created are "Curated Lists" of videos that pull together entire end to end workflows as individual videos. This may be more what you are looking for:
ReCap Viewer linear extraction | Autodesk
The linear extraction tools are accessible through ReCap Viewer in Autodesk Construction Cloud - the above set of videos will walk you through the process of project creation, publishing, linear extraction and export. Hope that this helps!
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for the link Mike. I watched the first 4 videos. They didn't get me any closer. I guess my ignorance is deeper than you suspect. I would really like to see a good definition of basic terms (like "Indexing") before attempting a "how to".
Invented Help Example:
"Set your Wizzywag Parameter to 9"
What is a Wizzywag Parameter, and where, how, and why do I need to set it? (Hyperbole, but not by much)
I've been using ReCap ever since Autodesk pulled direct import of Point Clouds in 2017(?). I can get a point cloud into Civil 3D, but I haven't a clue what each ReCap step means. And I've had a few problems that even a support ticket didn't solve. Like >>>This<<<.

That is good feedback on the content, thanks again Dave.
In our user guide we do have a Glossary: Autodesk ReCap Help | Glossary | Autodesk
I will raise internally that we could look at adding some extra detail/examples to some of the entries to help explain some of the terminology that we use.
Thanks,
Mike
