I have again come back to Recap to see if it has improved since my last attempt.
Again, I am trying to import scans from a Faro scanner but when Recap tries to import them it just hangs. The CPU appears to be working hard, but even after leaving it run for hours it just goes nowhere.
Has any User successfully imported scans into Recap and been able to register scans? It feels like this functionality is only a marketing feature, but it doesn't actually work.
Hi Murray,
Some things to try:
1. Do you have FARO’s Scene Software? Use it to export scans to a PTS file.
2. Import the scans into ReCap by selecting the folder with the RAW scans instead of picking the individual files.
3. Re-register Faro's DLL. >>>Link<<<
4. Help suggestions >>>Here<<<.
5. Install latest version/update of ReCap.

I found some discussions on another forum that talks about this Faro SDK issue. This is new to me so I have reading up on this topic. I will give that a crack when I go into the office later today.
Thanks for your responses and guidance. I will let you know how I go.
I have now downloaded the Faro Scene LT software but can't seem to find out how to activate the licence for this yet. All the Faro support videos seem to 10 years old and appear to be way out of date. I have downloaded the SDK but it doesn't seem to make any difference. The Faro website mentions that the SDK is no longer supported but that really hasn't given me any clues as to what role it plays in the whole software workflow or if it is still relevant.
All I can gather so far is that the whole thing is a complete dog's breakfast. It also seems like we all need to do a degree in computer science to get these tools playing nice.
Not sure where to go from here as we can't afford to spend days trying to troubleshoot these issues. Looks like Recap will go back on the list of not ready for industry list for another year.
@Flies-Eyesi've literally just done this. I had received a bunch of .fls folders, but Recap couldn't handle them, so I used SceneLT to convert back to e57.
Open SceneLT
On the dashboard, create a New Project
Click on the Import button and import the scans
Right click on the Scan in the left hand pane, and select Import/Export -> Export Scan - Ordered
Put it in a folder where you want it, and now you have the e57 which should import better in to Recap
PS - I ended up importing them and doing a manual registration, just because of the nature of the scans. I did the import 3-4 times just because of the way they were scanned and had to break up the site in to 3 different recap projects, but it all worked out in the end. YMMV
