HELP! Moved our Files, now they won't open

As our existing Isilon storage servers were coming to end of life, we had to migrate all of our point cloud data to a new NetApp server. All data was successfully copied over to the new location by our IT department using RoboCopy but as they prepared to delete the old location, they renamed it. When they did that, we could no longer open any of our ReCap projects from the new location. If they changed the name back to the original name on old server, projects would open right up. We have never had an issue copying projects around to other locations and if we copy them down to our desktops they work just fine no matter the old server name. Is there something in the support files that is linking to the old server still for some reason? This is a massive problem for us that we need a resolution to very quickly. It its not limited to just one project. We have tried various projects from different folders and none of them will open with the old location renamed.

We are currently using ReCap PRO V6.1.0.71. (upgrading to 2025 is not an option as there are too many issues with that at last look. Too slow response time for one thing)

Hi @Matt_V1,

Then the issue is not related to whether paths containing one period or two periods are supported by the new storage server.

What's most upsetting in this is that we put in a service ticket with Autodesk and got NO help. It took way more than the allotted time frame for them to call us back and then, when they did, they disconnected as soon as they were told them what the issue was. Appreciate that Autodesk.

It sounds like ReCap projects are still linked to the old server path. Try these steps:

  1. Check Project Files – Open .rcp or .rcs files in a text editor to see if they reference the old server.
  2. Use the Same Drive Letter – If the old server was mapped to a drive letter, remap the new server the same way.
  3. Create a Symbolic Link – Redirect the old server name to the new one to trick ReCap into finding the files.
  4. Re-import the Data – Open raw scans in ReCap, then re-save and re-index from the new location.
  5. Check ReCap Settings – Look in ReCap or Windows Registry for stored paths pointing to the old server.
