Hello. I have been given some ReCap files to export needed scan data. In ReCap I can only see the option to export the entire point cloud which consists of multiple set ups. Exporting the entire cloud produces PTS files which are 1.5 GB or larger. My largest file is currently 5 GB.
Is there any way to export an individual scan location to a PTS file? Although more cumbersome to export, the file sizes would be more manageable.
Thanks,
Marshall Conway

Hi @Anonymous,
Thank you for participating in our Community!!! Have you tried creating Scan Regions and exporting them? Scan Regions will help you visualize scene in different configurations by keeping only the regions you want to see turned on. Scan Regions can also be imported and exported via the contextual tools available on any Scan Region group, or as an entire assembly of all groups and individual Scan Regions.
Please, click on this like to learn more about Scan Regions.
Thank you and have a great day!

Anil,
Thanks for the quick response. I cannot create regions as I only have the 30 day trial and regions is part of the "Pro" package. I am familiar with the region process from viewing tutorials online. Although not ideal, it may work for what I need. Since region creation is not available to me with the trial version, I am experimenting with clipping data and exporting which may work.
Thank you,
Marshall
Hello from Spain mconwayjr
If I dont misunderstood you, you have an RCPproject wich contains various scan locations, right?
If so, I would do this:
1- In ReCap with your project opened, identify the name of the scan location that you want to export.
2- Out of ReCap, open the project Support folder (it has the same name as your project, and it is located in the same folder).
3- Locate inside this folder the .RCS with the same name as the scan position you want to export. Copy it to other folder.
4- Open a new project in ReCap. Import the .RCS file of step 3. Since the information contained in RCS file is already processed, this process should not take a lot of time.
5- Once imported, then you can save as or export as you want.

Hi @Anonymous,
I'm just checking in to see if you need more help with this. Did the suggestion that @amorap provided work for you?

Amorap / Anil,
No, I have not had a chance to try what Amorap suggested. I am hoping to get time today to see if it works. I'll will update once I've tried.
Thanks,
Marshall
Amorap,
Thank you for the work around. It seems this would work work fine. Unfortunately, when I loaded the first scan according to your instructions, I expected to see 360 degrees of scan data for the single position from the laser scanner. What I saw was a rectangular section of data. Maybe the data was edited (clipped) and saved to the RCS file?
The process you stated did work but based on the results I received, I will currently stick with exporting the entire point cloud from the original project files.
Thank you everyone for your help!
Best regards,
Marshall
Hi mconwayjr
Beside your XXXXX.rcs file in the "Support" folder, it should have three additional files with the same name but with different extensions:
XXXXX.rcc
XXXXX.llt
XXXXX.thumbnail
Try to copy this files too to the same location that you placed XXXXX.rcs.
.rcc file has the information about "real view".
Regards.
