All Scan to Mesh conversions are suddenly failing!

I have  a large point cloud file I’ve been using in ReCap Pro since May.  In June I did several Scan to Mesh conversions from within Recap, and all the conversions worked great.  But now all mesh conversions from that same point cloud fail, even if they are the exact same request as ones that succeeded back in June.  My files upload to Autodesk, and my request gets queued, but as soon the conversion starts… immediate failure notice. I updated Recap Pro and Desktop Connector last night hoping that might help, but no luck.  Something has changed at Autodesk.  What can I do?  I just renewed my tokens for $300 and I can’t use them!

Hi @whitneydigital ,

Sorry, you're facing this issue.

Have there been any changes to the projects since the last successful runs? Have any other projects or the ReCap sample project run successfully?

Would it be possible to share the project name of the last unsuccessful run? I'll check the backend for more info on the failures if possible.

Thanking You.

Warmest Regards,

Hi @barmanr

Thanks for offering to look into this.

No changes to the project were made that I'm aware of, but I wondered the same thing, so as a test I started with a fresh recap project and re-imported the original scan data.  But same problem with the new file—a conversion that is identical to one I did earlier this year now fails.  I tried again this morning, and the project name was "BFR_LIDAR_Oct2024_low".

I think the problem may be a new limit on the size of point clouds that can be converted.  Previously I had also tried limiting the conversion to smaller and smaller regions of the point cloud using recap's clipping function.  That did not help until I actually deleted the clipped points from the project before starting the conversion.  Then it worked on those small regions that had been destructively downsized.

So it seems that there is now an upload size limit.  And based on upload times, reCap seems to upload my entire point cloud even when I am only converting a non-destructively clipped region.

With the size limit in place, if that's what is going on, I'd never again be able to convert a point cloud of this size all at once.

I look forward to hearing if you found anything from my failed project.

Thanks!

Hi @whitneydigital ,

Thanks for the project name.

Based on the backend logs, the RCS file does not seem to have uploaded. Is this a single large RCS file? Perhaps the RCS file did not get uploaded properly. Also does the temp folder have enough space because during upload of large RCS files, ReCap performs a split and retry mechanism to upload the files for performance. This would require some extra space on the machine.

Also if possible, can be project be shared with me for debugging? If Yes, I can PM you a private one drive Autodesk link for upload.

And lastly, would it possible to try using the latest version of ReCap Pro (2025/2025.1)? Would like to rule out if this is version specific or a general issue.

Thanking You.

Hi @andrew_c_mitchell ,

Would it be possible to get the name of the submitted project? I will check the backend for the failure.

Thanking You.

hey @barmanr, can you look into my failure as well? Project is "Phase 1_SepSignExtraction"

Hi @wpagliaro,

Similar error where the RCS file did not get uploaded. Did the uploading complete? Which version of ReCap Pro is this?

Also would it be possible to share the dataset?

Warmest Regards,

Hi @wpagliaro @andrew_c_mitchell @whitneydigital ,

This could be tied with a single RCS file size limit. We have now increased the backend file size limit. Possible to give a retry on the projects?

Warmest Regards,

thanks @barmanr , initially I was getting an error about "unable to find drive". after resetting my Desktop Connector, it is working now.

by the way, my NWC was not geolocated. I was able to translate it with the included .pos file. not a huge deal, but could be improved

Hi @wpagliaro ,

Thanks for the confirmation.

We released a ReCap Pro 2025.2 Beta earlier that allows for local scan-to-mesh processing. The NWC can then be exported using the newly included Mesh Editor. This NWC will be geolocated directly with the exact XYZ coordinates that the Point cloud holds.

Thanking You.
