3D Modeling?

I am a mine surveyor who has always used Deswik or Vulcan to build the solids of the mine. These two software packages make it easy. Import point cloud, process & done. Civil 3D, not so easy.

Does anyone know if modeling a mine using ReCap/Civil 3D is even possible? If so, can you please offer guidance?

Thank you so much

What have you tried in Civil3D so far? You can import a point cloud, and convert it to surfaces.

Hi @BrayTQKT8 ,

In ReCap Pro it is possible to create a surface model of any point clouds. This is currently available as a cloud service triggered from ReCap Pro, or a desktop process in the Latest 2025.2 Beta:

We haven't yet made the leap into converting the surfaces into solids but we'd be interested in hearing your feedback on the above from a Mining point of view, so that we can continue to improve those tools.

Thanks,

Mike

I am able to insert the point cloud into Autodesk. I am having problems with topology, however. The scans have a fixed coordinate system, but when I bring it into Autodesk, it's off in space. IDK??? Yes, I was able to convert it to a surface, but Autodesk doesn't do a good job processing a point cloud of tunnels. Any ideas?
