I have a 2013 version of AutoCad installed on my home computer.  I have  a few hundred AutoCad files that open and close correctly.  Yesterday I received four new files from a mechanical  engineer that I can not open. I was directed in a AutoCad pop up window, that I must install from Autodesk the DWG TRUEVIEWER.  I did the download and then came to find out that ALL of my previous Autocad and the newest four files from the mechanical engineer files won't open with the viewer. I panicked and did a system restore.  The restore was 100% perfect. In order to review the  newer files, I need to install the DWG TRUEVIEWER  so that future files from other architects, engineers and other professionals can be opened properly.  Will I be able to open up all of my existing hundreds of files?

I am a 71 year old, that has been designing with  AutoCad for the past five years. Our office installed AutoCad 2013 on my home computer, because I choose to work at home during the evenings and weekends. I am giving you this information so that you understand that I am not the most computer literate because of my age. I spent 45 years in the field doing HVAC sketching, design/build, fabrication and finally AutoCad.

Thank you for your help,

Frank

Hello @frapat110

What operating system are you running? The issue is likely that your operating system does not meet the system requirements to run the current version of Autodesk DWG TrueView 2020 > please click here<.

You will need to install a >previous verion (likely 2018 or 2017) of DWG TrueView<.  You would then use the SAVEAS to save it to an previous version format for use in an previous version.

If the above does not resolve it, you could always ask the sender to save the file down to a >previous version format<, to be able to open in your 2013 version.

This is considered previous version support, I will move this post over to the proper board.
