AutoCAD Map 2000i Runtime Error!

Have used AutoCAD Map 2000i since 2000 without major problems.  Yesterday tried entering a dwg file, got the following error message: Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files (X85)\AutoCAD Map 2000i\acad.exe
abnormal program termination.     Tried to reinstall using the AutoDesk provided DVD; would not install.  Help, please

Can you try a repair instead of reinstalling?

@johnusma57 What's your Windows version my friend? Wrong answers would be Win10 and Win11.

Windows 10; I have been running this version of AutoCAD Map 2000i on the
same OS and same computer since 2000; why suddenly won't work?

@johnusma57 you and everyone else at some point sadly have these issues (Win10 was released in 2015, so that's not true either).

MAP2000i's system requirements do not include Win10, so Autodesk is never going to offer tips or solutions for it

These folks offer lots of tips (and if needed as a last resort, a product to buy to fix the issue), start exploring and testing and implementing https://longbowsoftware.com/home

Good luck.

Yes, did not mean to imply I had used Windows 10 since 2000, sorry. Meant
I have used the AutoCAD with Windows, multi versions, since 2000. First I
have heard that AutoCAD has issues with Windows 10; is there no way to fix
the problem? I am now retired and can't see my way to spend the kind of
money needed for new version of the software.

no Autocad 2000i came out over 20 years

it was not made to run on newer OS & never will be made compatible

you can try running in compatible mode but no guarantee this will work:

Was running well for many years on Windows 10; what happened; was there an
"Adobe" disabling?

could have been a windows update that broke it which is known to happen

That makes sense; thank you. Started using AutoCAD in 1982; I am now
retired, so I can do without it. Will miss tinkering on it though. Thanks
again for your help.

Uninstall Map 2000i and then try these steps using longbow - their solution solved my specific issues every time
