Activate old Autocad LT versions

Hi there,

I'm writing from a Portuguese small architecture and engineering company.

We have 2 licenses for Autocad LT 2008 and 1 for Autocad LT 2010, and last week we had a problem with one computer, that we had to format it.

Now we are installing Autocad LT 2008 and we can not activate the product! Autodesk does not activate anymore old versions? We tried the LT 2010 and it is the same problem.

Is there anything we can do about it? Any old link to activate licenses from old customers? Or the software is outdated and it can not be used anymore?

Thanks in advance,

Rui Pedro

No, as from Aug 29th any version 2010 or older can no longer be activated, these older versions don't work with the newer Windows OS anyway. But can no longer be activated even if you have a computer with an older OS, you will need to look at updating your users to the newest version of Autocad.

Autodesk killed off reauthorizing of 2010 and older software as of August 31 2019, read about it here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/simplecontent/content/previous-ver...

Sorry, you missed the deadline. There is nothing you can do about it today. If you still have your old PC with the software installed and running on it, then you need to hang on to it for as long as it will last while you figure out a new solution if you are unable to join Autodesk Subscription for newer software.

OP talk to your local Autodesk reseller. Perhaps there's a legacy upgrade special pricing where you trade in your old licenses for new ones for a price, and then put them on a subscription. They used to have that going on, but I am not sure if they do anymore. Another alternative is to go through the website to contact a representative.

If by some odd chance my nattering was useful -- that's great, glad to help. But if it actually solved your issue, then please mark my solution as accepted 🙂

Good luck trying to make ANY contact with a live representative at
Autodesk, either by phone, email OR web interaction! They have done a
superb job at isolating themselves from ANY direct interaction. No worries,
though. I found a perfectly functional alternative program (for less than
1/4 the price of Autodesk's subscription ripoff). As stated earlier, I have
NOTHING but contempt and disdain for Autodesk's outrageous business
practices and abysmally poor customer service.

Glad you found a solution that works for you elsewhere: seems to be a popular fix.

As a general rule for anyone else anyone can call an Autodesk reseller, find one or more here, they are there for client needs https://www.autodesk.com/partners/locate-a-reseller

It's untrue that autocad LT 2010 wouldn't work with Windows 10, Mine worked perfectly with windows 10. until autodesk killed it off. This is just a cynical way to squeeze money out of clients who already paid for in full for their software. The same happened to me, so after a lot of research I switched over to Projecad. It's a one off perpetual license at a fair price , it opens all of my existing .dwg drawings with no problems and the interface is almost identical to autocad. I don't have a  vested interest or anything , I just don't like being shafted by a large company.

I also know someone with this problem. If your old computer is still running (safe mode) you can use the "Portable license tool" that is installed together with autocad. This tool allows you to transfer an activated license to another PC.
If this is not possible, you can try to put your old hard disk in your new PC, then you can scan this hard disk in the Portable license utility under: Computers> Migrate.
