Updating a .opt Post to a .pmoptz post

I am currently using an old post processor to generate my g-codes. I would like to have a newer version of my current post processor. What steps needs to be taken to make this happen?

The story we are currently using 2017 Autodesk PowerMILL and PowerSHAPE to run our production. We have one computer that has 2019 Autodesk PowerMILL and PowerSHAPE running on it. I am having a possible issue with the G-codes, I run a model on 2017 and 2019 and get different outputs of G-Codes but only in 1 area. I ran the same model once on 2017 and then once on 2019 I received 2 different outcomes (See attached). What can I do to have the G-Codes come out identical?

There is no obvious solution. You can of course convert your DuctPost (*.opt) into a Pmpost version (*.pmoptz)  .. For that you just need to import your Opt file into the Autodesk Manufacturing Post Processor.

But the conversion is based on script creation. It works, but it's not a clean solution and not very practical if you need to modify your postprocessor.

On my point of view it's better to sart from a new version. It may seem like a waste of money, but if you go on new specifications and an exhaustive validation of your processor the return on investment is a winner.

Hi Paul

Firstly, I do not recommend converting the old ductpost by importing into the new Autodesk post processor utility.

In order to have your post converted properly, you will need to contact your local support office and explain your requirements.  From there, it should be determined whether this would be a free service or whether you would need to pay for the work.

I hope this helps?

Kind Regards
