Reported by @pauliuska@louis.rehmel and @Michaelangelo631 in the PowerMill 2023 release announcement thread. I'm breaking the issue out to it's own thread for visibility and to make it it's own topic.

@pauliuska's description of the problem:

Hi,
Just noticed an issue. Some postprocessors not working.

After accepting selected post, it will default to <From Machine Tool>

Version: 2023.0.0.2023008

We are currently investigating to try to understand what is causing the issue. So far we have been unable to reproduce it. We think it may be to an issue with the installation of Autodesk Manufacturing Post Processor Utility 2023 (AMPPU).

Can I ask anyone experiencing the problem to try registering AMPPU 2023 and trying again to see if that fixes the problem. You can register AMPPU 2023 by clicking on the Windows Start button, expanding the Autodesk Manufacturing Post Processor Utility 2023 folder and clicking Make PostComparer 2023 the Current VersionMake Manufacturing Post Processor Utility 2023 the Current Version. If that doesn't help can you try registering AMPPU 2022 if you already have PowerMill 2022 installed. You can register AMPPU 2022 by clicking on the Windows Start button, expanding the Autodesk Manufacturing Post Processor Utility 2022 folder and clicking Make PostComparer 2022 the Current Version Make Manufacturing Post Processor Utility 2022 the Current Version. Can you please report the results back here. Thank you.

Sorry, my registering instructions in the post above were wrong. I have corrected them in the original post.

Same here. Going back to MPP2022 didn't help.

@Benjamin.Br
I believe this is happening because the "Restrict remote paths" option is enabled and the Post Processor is saved in a network directory.

Unchecking this option solves the issue.

Thank you @rafael.sansao! We have now reproduce the issue and can confirm it is to do with restricting remote paths.

An additional security feature has been added to PowerMill 2023, which is on by default, that prevents access to files using network paths. This is to address a possible attack by accessing arbitrary file system paths, leading to exploitation by a malicious machine on the network. If you are accessing files or directories that you trust on a network then you can add them to the trusted files and directories location by going to File > Options > Application Options > Security > Security. We do not encourage turning the feature off all together. I appreciate that the lack of any explanation for why the file wasn't used is unhelpful and confusing so we will look at improving that.

Ultimately this is solved by either setting your network path as a trusted directory or by turning off either the setting to restrict remote paths or turning off security all together. As @Benjamin.Br mentioned, it's not recommended to disable the security features. The best solution moving forward is to add the network path to your trusted directory.

File > Options > Application Options > Security > Security

Add trusted directory > Point to location the post's are stored

Hi,

The "File > Options > Application Options > Security > Security

Add trusted directory > Point to location the post's are stored"

Doesn't work for me!

So have gone back to having "Restrict remote paths" un-ticked

@Colin_Wilson

Did you use the generic network location or the subfolder they are stored in?

Drive  "R:\" becomes "//AMFS1/Die Company"

So neither path nor drive works for me
