PowerMill 2018......what would YOU like to see?

We're working on the next release of PowerMill and would love to hear from our active forum community (that's you guys BTW).

What would like to see in the next version and why?

I would say under stock engagement depth of cut, set the maximum..

-Ability to undo accidentally deleting of model components when thinking you were deleting toolpath components.  Currently the only way is to re-import a new model, or hope you recently saved.

-View normal to closest nearest plane, similar to Solidworks.

It would be very good, that when you wrote a note or some edition, that next to the script you get the same symbol, so you know that this trajectory has something written

Just a tip... on your last wish set the links to Safe and you will get one CYCLE for all similar holes. Using skim the you will get one CYCLE per hole.

I tried that and still get a CYCL DEF for every similar hole

We have used other software in the past and one of the paths we miss in Power Mill is a Helicoidal mill.  Basically it is a spiral helix that cuts a flat bottom with the option to add cutter comp.

There is an option added for that in the pattern curve editor

Project preview on last saved state would be very usefull. Also for importing CAD models.

I didn't see that option in the pattern finishing. I was really thinking that having a path in the curve machining would be better. The path in our previous software all you needed a circle to machine on tell it a depth and give it a step down. No need to make a helix to cut on. I have yet to try that pattern helix but are you able to add cutter comp?

You can add cutter comp in your NC Program settings

If you use the drilling function, there is a cycle type option helical.

If you deactivate the output as a cycle, you can activate the cutter compensation... or your postprocessor and your machine can handle it within an equivalent cycle with cutter compensation.

I think, that it's exactly what you are looking for ?

Why are all of these videos set to private?

Hi @iamcdn79 - apologies, these videos were accidentally uploaded to the AKN. We're busy preparing the 2018 versions of PowerMill, PowerShape etc. for our customers and will share the finished videos with you as soon as possible. Until this time, the videos have been removed from AKN.

Thanks for your patience and sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

To add to the list of what I would like to see:

Surface inspection mode like in PowerSHAPE.  I find that very useful, and it would save me from opening up the model just to check some draft angles or fillet radii.

Thanks

I would pay double my maintenance costs if powermill could make an along corner toolpath that did not do this on 99 percent of the ones it currently calculates.

While we're at it, I don't think  Corner Clearance toolpaths are 100% yet either.  No examples right now, but I don't think It was too long ago that I tried it and it didn't work right.  Adds paths where there don't need to be any.

I'd like to see a toolpath overlap distance when using  "Machine stock only" on all toolpaths that support machining of stock only.  Exactly how corner detection works when using corner finishing toolpaths.

if chunks of a stock model are no longer connected to the main part (corners and such that are floating in space), I'd like the ability to window over them and delete them...

And since you're on the topic of Stock Models...

Perhaps any Rest roughing calculations be contained within the Block or Boundary, rather than running throughout the WHOLE stock model..

Would definately speed up the process..

And pleeeaaase try to calculate it faster. I upgraded from 2015 R2 to 2017 and the calculation of a rest stock model takes a lot longer, even with a higher tolerance.
