Hi all, someone can tell me experiences with Mazak machines in 5 axis.

The question is what brand machines works better with Powermill. We manufacture moulds.

Hi Santiago,

I have no experience with Mazak/Mazatrol for 5-axis but have used PowerMill to program Hermle with Heidenhain control for mold work and it works very well.  Also have used PowerMill on Fanuc controlled 5-axis (Matsuura) and 3 axis (Makino) and works very well too.  I do prefer the Heidenhain over the Fanuc for 5-axis though.

I have posed a similar question to others many times in regards to machine control, not machine tool, and the general consensus has been that for 5-axis the Siemens and Heidenhain controls are best, Heid being a close 2nd, and Fanuc below these.  I personally have no experience with Siemens though.

That said, I feel PowerMill would be very capable for most any 5-axis milling.  Getting a good post processor tailored to your specific machine configuration and manufacturing process is really the key.
