Macro select upper surface automatic, not by colour

I have a model where i need to select the flat surface on the top. It will be always on top which is the Z+ direction.

There is no way to use colours as a reference.

Anyone an idea how to realize an workaround to pick that surface?

Hi RAL6000,

As i see your query, it's somehow confuse to understand what exactly you want. Can you please give me a little more context on the situation here, then i will be able to respond. It could better, if you share  your query by preparing a Screencast video. Here is the link to download Autodesk Screencast .exe file.

Screencast

I wrote a macro for something similar once.  Try the attached macro. You may need to increase the flatness tolerance variable in the macro, especially if you are using metric units.

Hi jacob.seppanen,

Good job and really appreciate your effort. This macro really worthful for those who want to select the top surface of the component without selecting the surfaces.

Thanks a lot!

You made it!!!

I was able to adapt it to my machining and calculation process. I needed to increase the tolerance to 0,02mm that it finds my flat surfaces.

Appreciate your sharing.

PS: Maybe you already have an idea on another issue where i want to choose swarf surfaces automatically
