I have a Issue in creating path for trimming.

Hi, I'm a new user, I'm trying to create a path for the cut like this (attaching the photo). I don't know how to fix this tricky problem with any specific tool and path with Powermill.

Some idea? I am going crazy...

Material: plastic

Hi,

Can you please attach your powermill project so the community can take a crack at this for you.

Regards,

Mike

The toolpath and it's links are likely gouging around that turn and causing the toolpath to break. depending on the toolpath, you can try to see if this is corrected by turning off gouge check in the toolpath settings as well as your leads and links page.

Hi,

one of my problem is here. The curves and angle doesn't allow to create a simple path.

It's hard to see from just the picture alone but I don't see any radii on the bottom of that channel you are trying to cut.  Seems like you are stuck with an endmill path of sorts and not the key cutter you showed in your first picture.  I assume your on a 5 axis machine?

Mike

A swarf style tool path is what you need (IMO) but it looks like the geometry of the part doesn't allow this without the holder hitting the other side of the part.  Without any radii on the bottom of that channel I think your pretty much stuck.  Again base on limited jpg images.  I think you should find a way to slice of that end of the model for sharing without revealing the entire part geometry and being in violation of your nda.  In fairness I don't see how its possible for anyone to help you further without that.

Mike

Ok, i understand, here you can see my project. The client told me that on the mold grooves i can leave the radius, because is not important.

I hope that is ok.

Wow!  Congratulations to the designer for creating something almost un-machinable.  I am not an expert mold maker but I personally don't see how this is possible without inserting this in sections.  I'm sure there not interested in the seam lines or the mold costs going up to do such a thing.  My condolences to you.  Hopefully since you have the project attached some of the powermill ninja's on the forum can give you better news.

Regards,

Mike

The only way to accomplish this feature like you have in the first pictures would be to drop and electrode down in there and edm it sideways. No way a keyseat cutter will navigate around those corners.

If these grooves aren't important I'd be inclined to go to the designer and request these grooves are cylindrical in nature, then you'd have a chance of something achievable, otherwise a pretty complex burn will be required...good luck to your customer ejecting that...designers!!

Hi, thanks. I had talked with designer and he is reply that he modified the grooves. He modified from square to cylindrical grooves , this is only way to produce that part. OMG.
