database MDB file moved - INCORRECT DATABASE SCHEMA error appears

To replicate the problem:

1) The database works fine on location A with hundreds of tools in it. That A location was set maybe in PM version 2020

2) The MDB file has been moved to another folder (both in C drive). The file wasn't opened in Access or any other way (no structure of database changed). Just copied using Windows Explorer (tried to rename it as well to make sure the issue isn't with the same naming).

3) I try to tell PowerMill where the new location of the file (called it B), using the Database Manager (image below), but as soon as I pick the new file from File Picker, and click OPEN, I get the error. The File location wasn't amended and the old location A is maintained in settings. I can still get tools from the database (while it is still in location A)

4) I got the error

FAILED TO CONNECT TO DATABASE

INCORRECT DATABASE SCHEMA

Tools database server was re-registered in PM2025 (I run 2025.0.2.2025028) with admin privilege, to see if there is any difference. Same thing.

Did you get the same message?

Can you try moving your database MDB file to another location and amend the setting in Database Manager? Just to see if you can replicate this issue?

What Im missing?

Hi Artur

Any reason you aren't using tech support for this one??

The file you are moving, is it 876kb in size?

My assumption is that the database being copied is not what you think, as using the database provided with the install is a protected file, so a new one will be stored somewhere even though PowerMill suggests it's C:\Program Files\Autodesk\PowerMill 2020\file\tooldb

My advice: search your C drive for .mdb and find the location of the one that is larger than 876kb

Hi Craig

No, my database is the same size (circa 7MB), and it's copied in full. See this video

Im not sure if I missed something, in regards to the new security measures etc

Interesting.

Could you please raise a support ticket and FAO me?

I will look into it then… we could share the solution on here afterwards.

Thanks

Craig

The check for the database schema is being carried out during the new file selection process, hence the error.

I managed to trick PowerMill by selecting sample database and then replacing this file with my old-schema database:

1) using 'sample_tool_database.mdb', copying it to location B, then renaming it to 'TRBLS_tool_database.mdb'
2) set the new location in PowerMill
3) replaced the dummy 'TRBLS_tool_database.mdb' file in new location B with my database
4) All working as usual

By doing this, I walked around the problem or incompatible schema (this doesn't solve the problem with my database being obsolete, but I don't use BarrelCutters or any other new additions).
