Cutter compensation: 2d vs Left

I couldn't understand differences between these 2 options in the NC program dialog. Would you please explain them?

If you open the settings on the NCprogram, click on the '?' at the top right of the form, then click in radius field, this should pop up the help form for this item.

This works for most items in Pmill

@kevin.hammond3WX4X  Actually I had read it before. I know what the left compensation is but don't understand the 2d case. What is it actually? Its use case?

2d means 2-axis movements, 3d for 3-axis movements. In fact, these selections only place the code G41 or G42 at the beginning of the program. Some controllers can apply tool radius compensation to the program by having such a code. But basically, the strategy should have the ability to compensate the radius of the tool in its settings. Like drilling strategy.

@powercam.ir  Sepas. But your explanation for the 2d option isn't clear for me. If you look at here, you will see that a spiral Constant Z is used and the 2d option will output G41. Why the left compensation isn't used instead?

 

In my tests using Constant Z strategy for a boss feature:

1. With spiral option active, the 2d will always output G41 (Both of climb direction and conventional)

2. Without spiral, the 2d will output G42 for climb direction and G41 for conventional direction (When lead in is Ramp). It is really strange!

If you use clim, it gives G41 and if you use convestional, it gives G42. Its ok. But the strategy must have the compensation of the tool. See profiling or drilling strategy. This option is available as an option
