5 Axis Swarf Trimming Issue

Hello,

I am trying to create a cutting fixture and use a swarf path to trim the plastic. I am encountering some issues with the toolpath on Powermill. I want the path to follow the path normal to the surface, but I keep getting weird crashes in the simulation. I imagine there is a setting I am missing or not fully understanding how something works. I attached a screencapture of the issue I am having. Any information would help a lot.

-Thanks

A

Hi @alexsGJC2R

It is most likely an issue with the surface itself.  You may need to recreate it.

For now, try turning on the option "Follow surface laterals".  If this doesn't help, a newly constructed surface will do the trick.  You will need to upload your PowerMill project here for us to look at.

agree with @ChristopherMarion , dump that surface and recreate it.

a lot of times what I'll do is copy the surface into powershape, convert it to a 'power surface' and paste it back into powermill. 90% of the time that takes care of the weird UV lines and gives me something useable. if not, then a few minutes must be spent to make a new one that will give swarf friendly lines.
