Create Custom Part grayed out in probe assembly

Running PowerInspect Ultimate 2018 on Windows 7, with a Renishaw PH9/TP20 setup.

As per title, I cannot create a custom stylus because the Create Custom Part button is grayed out. I have 2017 installed also and it is also grayed out there, so I suspect I am doing something wrong.

Does anyone know why it's grayed out?

Thanks.

I don't have access to 2018, but in 2020 you need to make sure that the "probe part insert cursor" is positioned at below the probe module as per image below.

It then will enable the button and will pop-up the stylus creation dialog. If it still doesn't work there is a workaround: pick a catalogue stylus that is approximately similar to the required geometry. You can use any combination of extensions/styli, they only matter for the simulation. You might need to calibrate it manually if the geometry is significantly different, but after it gets calibrated, the calibrated length and diameter are going to be used, so the machine will be driven to correct location and the results will be correct.

Thanks, after trying your suggestion and still failing, I discovered that the Create Custom Part button works in the Probe Tool Assembly window but is always grayed out the Probe Tool Sub-assembly window.

However, after I have created my custom part in the Probe Tool Assembly window, it is available to use in a sub-assembly...

I can work with that for now!

The "Create Custom Part" button in PowerInspect Ultimate 2018 might be grayed out due to a few reasons: you may not have the required permissions or licenses, the active probe assembly might not be compatible, or you might be in a mode that restricts customization. Ensure you have appropriate permissions, check the probe assembly setup, and verify that your software license supports custom parts.
