Insert Offset Points Check Box Function

Can someone explain what the check box on the Manually Add Points window of Autodesk Point Layout tab in Revit does?

I am trying to create an SOP for Point Layout in my office but my understanding of what this check box actually does eludes me.

Great question David, happy to help there. If you look in the Settings screen, you will find a tab for Offsets, where you can setup various entries with a description and a vertical offset value. When you chose that Insert Offset Points checkbox it will use these settings to create additional points at the same location but offset by the Vertical offset(Can be negative as well). This was added originally for layout of trenching where users would simply have the lines indicating the sides of the trench, but wanted additional points created at a lower elevation to indicate the bottom of the trench and would then use this for machine control. I am sure there are many other uses for it that users have come up with but that was the original intent.
