Create a schedule using APL Coordinates

Is it possible to create a Revit schedule using APL points? The schedule would need to included Northings, Eastings, Elevation and Description. I currently have inserted APL points into a family but cannot find a way to create a coordinate parameter. I would like to place multiple instances of this family and produce a schedule that lists the coordinates and can be printed.

Use the Manage points tool, this will show all the needed information and you can save or print from there as well. The one current drawback is that it only reports coordinates in Project Relative, something I will change to either default to the Shared, or let you select.

The reason you cannot schedule, is as you said, there is not parameters for the coordinates. I don't store them against the points as there would be so many ways for them to become invalid, as they would just be string values, not actually linked to an elements real coordinates, i.e. you manually move a point, the parameters would no longer be accurate.

Thanks,
Shayne

I am looking into possiblilities to get points documentated on revit drawings. What i read and see sofar is that it is not possible to schedule points inside Revit. Is that correct? If so, would it be more logical to use APL in AutoCAD model in combination with attribute extraction. Using AutoCAD you could also use the direct excel link into dwg drawing. In any way one surely wants to keep the points and schedules together in the same file. What is your opinion the best way to get certain points tables to (a revit) drawing?

Correct, it is not possible to schedule coordinates. Technically those coordinates could be stored into a separate parameter and that could be scheduled, but then you would run the risk of them being invalid due to an item being moved, or a different coordinate system being desired. Hopefully others can add into this conversation how they handle this. I did add coordinates into the manage points screen so it is similar to a schedule, however currently it does not allow showing those coordinates in the Shared coordinate system, something I hope to allow for in a future release.

Thanks,
Shayne

There is a free add-in called 'XYZ Coordinates' but it does have some limitations. First, it only works on structural foundations and structural columns. So you would need to either change the family type of your point, or nest it in a family that is of these types. Second, every time a point moves, you need to re-run the add-in to update the coordinates. Other than that it is a really easy and quick way to generate these parameters for scheduling. I haven't had any issues with it thus far.

If you mean the Excitech tool, that is what we use. I have come across limitaties on that one as Well. AutoCAD DWG as xports has some benefits to offer with scheduling i you are willing to use it.

Maybe there is way to use DynamoBIm for scheduling xyz, Is there an exmaple how this is done?

but for a more pragmatic answer.

export your models as DWG and do the scheduling in plain AutoCAD.

data extraction is a breeze from there.
