Regarding LAYMRG and LAYMCH commands restrictions based on object selections

I'm trying to restrict LAYMRG and LAYMCH command for some objects, but it's working based on layers, is there any way to also control this command based on the object selections.

CHPROP command with a preselection?

Actually, I want to use LAYMRG and LAYMCH only and then apply filter to remove some objects from selection set.
Is there any way to get the selection set when we run these commands?
