How do you get real object values in your drag clone operation?

I'm drawing some transient graphics in my custom object's subMoveGripPointsAt handler as the grips are being dragged. The object at this point ("this" pointer) is a clone (?) of the original. I need some values from my actual object to limit the transient drawing operation. How do I get to the settings of the 'real' object from my grip-move clone?

I feel like I discovered this once before, but I seem to have forgotten...

Ok.... I realised I can just add info to my GripAppData class. I assume that is the 'correct' way to do this?
