How do I create downskin and upskin slices with different toolpaths?

Ive tried using the downskin function under modify. But the parameters and the help descriptions seem very confusing to me. Ive tried various different approach but not seem to create a downskin contoured region in the slices to be able to generate downskin filling. 

Is anyone able to provide some guidance or maybe a worked example?

Hello, @duncan_gibbons,

Welcome to the Netfabb forum!

You may need to reduce the shrinkage value from the default. (And adjust the expansion value to match.)

Unless you have VERY shallow downskin angles and/or VERY thick layers, the default is liable to shrinking the detected difference between layers to nothingness.
