First layer on top of substrate is not simulated ?

Using Netfabb Local Simulation 2023.0 for DED simulation, I realize that the first layer is not simulated (I set the option where the first layer is deposited on top of the substrate, not inside) as the first layer is already there when the output data starts and no data is available for this layer. It's as if the simulation really started at the 2nd layer.

Is this an expected behavior ?

Best regards,

Stéphane

Hello again Stephane,

This is not expected behavior. Can you confirm looking at the logs what the build height is at the first layer? Look for the line:

Laser: 1, line, position [x] [y] [z]

Is the z coordinate the same as the 1st or 2nd layer found in the .lsr file?

Is this for standard 2.5D DED or is this a 6 axis simulation, potentially using an STL for the substrate?

Thanks,

Michael

Hello Michael,

So indeed the LSR file and log files show that the first layer is being simulated. In this case, initial z=0 and substrate is a regular plate for a 2.5D DED simulation. So I'm guessing the output frequency (=5) and geometry are such that the results are not being output during the first layer. But they are during subsequent layers that are fairly similar, which is why I was puzzled. I guess I can increase the output frequency (so reduce to 3 or 4 for example) but it's already a large simulation as it is.

Best,

Stéphane
