How to create a new block and overlay to an existing one

Hi Guys,

I need to create a new block based on a existing block(need the same shape), then overlay on top of the existing one.

1. create a new block based on the existing one. the existing block is solid but I need to give pattern to new one

2. overlay on top of the existing one

I new how to create a block generally, but doesn't know how to create based on an existing one

If you have AutoCAD Architectual installed, you can copy the existing block definition and create a new block to replace the existing insert with COPYBLOCKDEFANDASSIGN command.

So before you using the command, make a copy of the block insert first. The use the command to create another block, then use block editor to change its definition.
