Creating autocad automization

Hi,

I'm new to autocad automization, and by new I mean no knowledge what so ever. I do have some experience with Autodesk Inventor Customization.

What I am asking is where do I start? Is there a API that I can read for samples? Any good tutorials?

The application I would like to make is a standalone executable program that creates a block from the selection and scales it to value x in one direction. At the end the block will be exploded.

Some advice would be awesome!!

As far as it will be standalone executable program (exe-file) - so you have to use AutoCAD ActiveX Interface.

Driving AutoCAD from an external EXE doesn't have many benefits, and a number of restrictions.  Normal operation is to create something that operates *inside* the  AutoCAD session, whether its a dotNET DLL plug-in, ObjectARX ARX application, or a LISP routine.

I was looking into ObjectARX, but if I understand correct this is not compatible for AutoCad-LT? Are there other methods to create my described tool that are compatible with AutoCad and AutoCad-LT?

If your "AutoCAD Customization" target is AutoCAD LT, you are out of luck: AutoCAD LT cannot be customized programmatically. You need full AutoCAD.
