We would like to create nwf files that open all of the dwg files in a directory without having to go back and append the dwg files manuallly as they are updated and added. Tried using the -nwc command in the roamer properties dialog but apparently aren't getting the syntax right. How exactly is this done?

You can set the Batch Utility on the Home tab to create NWF files which contain all files in a folder, this can be run manually or scheduled to run overnight.
Simply select the folder (or folders) where the DWG's are stored and select 'Add File Spec'. This will select those files as an input.
Under Output, Ensure you have Single File selected, then browse to a location for your NWF and name it (you may need to change file type in the Save Output As dialog. This will set your output to be a single NWF file.
You can then run this command now, or set up a scheduled task, to run this on a regular basis.
I hope this helps you out.
This was only released as part of the 2011 product. However if you log into theSubsciption Centre (as log as you have current Subscription) you can download the Autodesk Navisworks 2010 Subscription Advantage Pack which contains this Tool. It will be available once installed under Tools > Batch Utility.

Note. You will also need to have the Autodesk Navisworks 2010 Service Pack 1 installed on the machine
Got it, thanks. This is a very nice additional feature. I do have a suggestion tho. Make the batch utility window expandable. A lot of our cad directory paths are too long to see in the space provided. Other than that, it's great.
Why not x-ref the models together in Autocad, then load the "assembly" dwg into Navisworks. That way you have the completed assembly in both applications, you can create flatshots and section views in autocad and if any model changes, you simply reload in Navisworks, it reads all the dwg's and updates the nwc's only for any that have changed and all is well in there too!
I have used this method for years in Navisworks and it is great, but for best results use relitive paths for your x-ref links.
Hope this helps!
