Tekla IFC missing properties in Navisworks

Hi all,

At my firm we get a lot of IFC's, exported from Tekla, which we use in Navisworks.

Yet it remains noticeable that a lot of properties such as steel quality and weight, which we certainly need, do not show at all. This while we are sure that the Tekla modeller has filled in these properties and has also exported those.

I know that this problem is already known to Autodesk. They indicate that this can be solved by changing the Selection Resolution in the options menu from last object to first object. This is obviously not a solution but a workaround. In my opinion something goes wrong when reading the properties by Navisworks. Do others also have experience with this? Is this that can be solved at the front (for IFC export from Tekla) by defining custom property sets? And Autodesk is still working on this because the Netherlands is working more and more with the exchange of IFC's and I do not understand that this is being picked up ...

Always check the IFC in Solibri Model Viewer (free) to validate what's been exported.  This software was built to do this.  Navisworks (in my opinion) has never addressed IFC's properly and only provides a limited view of it's data.

Yes, it's getting better but after almost 15 years this message is wearing thin. 🙂
