Hello,

2026 is here! Today we have released Navisworks 2026. This release has been focused on addressing product issues and a particular focus to modernising the look and feel and enhancing workflows for our users. Navisworks 2026 is our biggest release in some time with brand new features such as Export to NWD and Property Sets whilst also modernising existing workflows such as Quick Properties.

Check out the what's new highlights and release notes.

Product Improvements

User Interface and Usability Improvements

Many forms inside Navisworks have been refreshed with updated dialog boxes and icon appearances. For example, the Saved Viewpoints, Properties, Sets, and Find Items windows all have a more modern user centric appearance and improvements such as search:

Properties Panel

brett_parkerLUEP7_0-1743495920691.png

In 2026 we removed Property favourites and replaced it with Property Sets. This change removed the ability to have more than 1 property panel open at a time. As such, you can now open up to 4 Property panels at once and have different Property Sets per panel. These can be accessed via the View tab > Windows > Properties 2,3,4.

Viewpoints Panel

The Viewpoints Panel also have additional indicators for Visibility Overrides and Appearance overrides. Making it quick and easy to see if a viewpoints has these enabled.

brett_parkerLUEP7_37-1743497576844.png

Select all (CTRL + A)

CTRL + A now correctly works to select all text in a box. Consequently, the Append shortcut has now moved to CTRL + Shift + A and Merge to CTRL + Shift + M.

Unhide Children

Right clicking in the selection tree now gives the option to Unhide Children. With this option it will unhide all below the selected object.

brett_parkerLUEP7_0-1744202159528.png

BIM360 Desktop shortcut

This shortcut is no longer created by default. If this is still required, locate the application in the windows menu, right click and create desktop shortcut.

Property Sets

You can now easily filter for and create custom sets of properties using the new Home tab > Display panel > Property Sets option.

Create Property Sets by searching for properties, or navigating the property tree in the Create Property Set dialog box:

brett_parkerLUEP7_3-1743495920696.png

Created property sets are available in the Properties Panel, the new Quick Properties drop-down list on the Display tab, and in the Selection Inspector window, enabling export as a CSV.

Clash Detective Improvements

Clash Detective now has improved filtering and sorting functionality on the tests panel and results tab. Depending on the contents of the selected column, you can filter using text, number, and date options.

brett_parkerLUEP7_4-1743495920696.png

Other Clash Detective improvements include:

  • Improved consistency of functionality standardising on icons.

brett_parkerLUEP7_5-1743495920700.png

  • New Set Default Assignee option on the Tests panel allowing an assignee to the overall test, not just the individual results.

brett_parkerLUEP7_6-1743495920700.png

  • Last Run is now available in a column in Tests panel. This allows for sorting and filtering with the new options.

brett_parkerLUEP7_7-1743495920701.png

  • New Resolved (date) and Resolved By columns now available on the results tab.

brett_parkerLUEP7_8-1743495920701.png

  • Assign a priority to clash tests and clash results using the new Priority columns on the tests panel and results tab. Clash result priority can also be included in reports.

brett_parkerLUEP7_9-1743495920702.png

brett_parkerLUEP7_10-1743495920703.png

  • Test Type is now included as an individual column in the results tab, and this frees the Description column to be editable. This allows users to make notes and add additional context to individual clashes.

brett_parkerLUEP7_11-1743495920703.png

  • A new Delete Empty Groups button on the results tab enables you to delete all empty clash groups within the selected test with a single click.

brett_parkerLUEP7_12-1743495920704.png

  • The results tab now includes a new column containing the number of clashes in a group. This column will automatically appear when there are groups in the results tab.

brett_parkerLUEP7_13-1743495920705.png

  • Group clashes based on clash property data using functionality previously only available in the Navisworks Coordination Issues Add-In. Grouping is now embedded into the Clash Detective form directly.

brett_parkerLUEP7_14-1743495920706.png

  • Clash and issue statuses are now synchronized when creating issues from clashes using the Navisworks Coordination Issues Add-In. In Clash Detective users will now see a new column called Related Info which will display the status of the linked issue.

brett_parkerLUEP7_15-1743495920706.png

  • Users have an additional option to Select Issue which will open the issues panel and select the linked clash.

brett_parkerLUEP7_16-1743495920708.png

  • Rules Editor creation form has been modernized and will now automatically resize to suit the values

brett_parkerLUEP7_17-1743495920709.png

  • The Clash Test panel has the ability to select the columns that are visible via the column picker.

brett_parkerLUEP7_18-1743495920709.png

  • Confirmation dialogs have been added to Delete All, Compact All, Reset All, Reset clash results and Clear Resolved clash results. No more miss-clicking away your work!

Find items

Building on the backend work we did in Navisworks 2025, the Find Items window has been redesigned with a lighter touch than others. The main Find Items changes were around useability and now includes a Save option to save search sets directly.

  • Improved useability with user friendly icons for deletion, duplication, additional options and add condition.

brett_parkerLUEP7_19-1743495920710.png

  • Improved visibility of AND OR and NOT

brett_parkerLUEP7_20-1743495920711.png

Set front

A new option to allow users to define the Front view of the ViewCube by selecting a face in the model geometry.

brett_parkerLUEP7_21-1743495920711.png

Appearance Profiler

The Appearance Profiler has undergone a redesign and has new options added to improve usability:

brett_parkerLUEP7_22-1743495920712.png

Enhancements include:

  • A new Profiles area containing icons to represent the dialog options.
  • An easier to use By Property tab, that includes prepopulated property drop-downs.

brett_parkerLUEP7_23-1743495920713.png

  • An option to test the selection for each profile rule after adding them to the profile.

brett_parkerLUEP7_24-1743495920713.png

  • Appearance profiles are now saved as XML files, instead of DAT files.
    • The ability to import profiles allows for importing existing DAT files which will then be converted to XML.
    • The dropdown will also look inside the Navisworks Site and Project locations making it simpler to share Profiles across your teams.

brett_parkerLUEP7_25-1743495920714.png

  • The ability to hide all objects not found in the profile. With this option, any object not found in the profile will automatically be hidden.

brett_parkerLUEP7_26-1743495920714.png

  • The Appearance Profiler form is now intended to only be used in the creation or editing of a profile. This is because we have added the profile selector directly on the ribbon for easy selection and application of the profile.

brett_parkerLUEP7_27-1743495920715.png

Measure Panel

The Measure Tools window has been redesigned to use a simpler and more modern user interface.

brett_parkerLUEP7_28-1743495920716.png

  • It also now includes a Save Measurement option, which enables users to save the current measurement to the Saved Measurements dialog box:

brett_parkerLUEP7_29-1743495920717.png

  • On this dialog you can rename your saved measurements, delete sets of saved measurements, and export them.

Pivot Point Lock

When using navigation bar or SteeringWheels tools to navigate around a model, the pivot point is the point in the scene around which the navigation occurs. This pivot point can now be locked in position to aid with precise navigation.

The Pivot Lock option can be found in the Navisworks Status Bar. It indicates whether the pivot point is currently locked or unlocked, and can be toggled to turn the lock on and off (Keyboard shortcut - Ctrl + L).

brett_parkerLUEP7_30-1743495920717.png

  • The pivot ball will change from Green to Blue when the pivot is locked.

brett_parkerLUEP7_31-1743495920717.png>brett_parkerLUEP7_32-1743495920717.png

Export to NWD

You can now configure and export NWD files out of Navisworks using the new Output tab > Export Scene panel > Export NWD option. This can also be accessed via the application menu.

The available configuration options are:

  • Exclude hidden items - Removes hidden objects from the NWD on export. This option has also been included in the Publish dialog.
  • Embed ReCap and texture data - Embeds externally referenced files, including textures and ReCap files, into the NWD on export.
  • Prevent object property export - Excludes object properties that come from native CAD packages in the exported file.
  • Navisworks Version - Specifies the file format version that you want to save the NWD file as.

Default File Format

With the release of Navisworks 2026 and all the new functionality, a new 2026 file format was necessary and affects NWD and NWF files.

You can use the Default Format Version option on the Options Editor dialog box > Model node > NWD page to select which file format version you want to save NWD and NWF files as by default.

brett_parkerLUEP7_33-1743495920719.png

There is also a new indicator on the Status bar that displays the format version of the current file:

brett_parkerLUEP7_34-1743495920720.png

Known Issues in Navisworks 2026

Navisworks 2026 does contain some known issues that are listed below. The development team are is currently investigating fixes for these issues, and they are anticipated to be resolved in an upcoming release.

  • BIM 360 Glue can't currently save NWD files using the new 2026 file format. Instead, use the 2016-2025 file format, which you can specify using the Default Format Version option on the Options Editor dialog box > Model node > NWD page.
  • DWG files don't load correctly after opening Navisworks directly from Inventor using the Factory Design Utilities feature.
    • Work-around - Before selecting Factory tab > Open in Navisworks in Inventor, open an instance of Navisworks 2026. Then, when you select Open in Navisworks in Inventor, the currently open Navisworks instance is used, rather than a new Navisworks instance being started by Inventor. Loading a DWG file then works as expected.
  • The Output tab > Export Scene panel > Export NWD option can sometimes output corrupt files when using the Exclude hidden items option.

Development focus

Our attention now turns to Navisworks 2026 Update 1 and Navisworks 2027 specifically resolving known defects and bringing new quality of life features into the product. The team and I are committed to improving the product in all aspects and that is our goal for 2027.

We'd love to hear from you, please feel free to reach out to me directly or via account teams.

Known found issues with this release

  1. Clash issue status syncing: Automatically resolved clashes clash detective don't appear to be pushing the resolved status to the corresponding issue. Manually resolving the status is working as expected. Ticket: ABDI-3109

@brett_parkerLUEP7
I have a question. When will you decide to add an option to export previously selected Viewpoints? Or at least add a pre-export window where I can choose which Viewpoints I want to export. The same goes for other items like Search Sets, etc. It's unfortunate that this feature still hasn't been implemented.

Hey, can you provide a little more clarity. Do you mean the ability to select individual clashes and only export those?

No, it's not about clashes. There is a separate function in the Navisworks called Viewpoint. You may find it next to the Home tab. Once you save a Viewpoint, you may review it in the Saved Viewpoints window. If you want to export the Viewpoint, you may go to the Output tab and export all the Viewpoints. But I usually have 10-20 folders with different numbers of VPs in them. So, it would be really useful to have an option to select which folder or VPs to export.

Now, I just export everything, create a new empty file, import VPs, and remove unnecessary folders/VPs. Only after that do I do the last export and share the files with my team.

The new features are very impressed!
However, the Data Exchange connector is still not functioning since version 2024...

Can you provide details what you are referring to? Do you mean this data exchange? Or via Data Tools?

I apologize for the lack of clarity in my previous reply.

Indeed, I am referring to the Autodesk Data Exchange connector, specifically for Navisworks 2024 or newer versions.
I've created a topic [link to topic] that further explains the situation.

Ahh yes. Your post includes @lejla.s who is leading that development. Your thread with that team is the best place to keep up to date with that development.

Def looking forward to getting to experiment with all these improvements. Curious, were there any additions to the command line utilities to be aware of?

Also, 2025 has an interesting quirk/bug where when both the sets and selection tree windows are open, clicking on a set in the sets window will cause the selection tree window to switch into sets mode.  This slows down productivity and prevents simultaneous use of tree and sets..

We didn't get to command line utilities for 2026. However, it is our focus this year along with updating the SDK documentation.

I was not aware of this 2025 bug. I cannot reproduce it on 2025.4 but I may be misunderstanding. Do you have a video to demonstrate?

Feel free to share the video privately if you would prefer: Brett.Parker@Autodesk.com

Hi @r_simoes

as already mentioned in the other thread, we are working on releasing the Navisworks connectors with Write capability and you were invited to the private beta, however we are still working on resolving some issues before publishing the connectors to the public beta.

We will keep you posted on this topic in the Data Exchange Community. Thanks for your understanding!

Best,

hi

Thanks for the new features in Navisworks 2026.
The issue I’m facing is that the "Set Default Assignee" and "Priority" options are missing.

Please use " Accept as Solution", and give kudos as appropriate to further enhance these forums. Thank you!

If you look in the status bar, it will tell you which file version you are using. For those features to work, you must save the file as a 2026 file version.

Great stuff and I'm very happy to see that things are moving! 🙂

My biggest feature request for Navisworks is a "subtle" one but it's the one thing that keeps me from using Navisworks as my primary IFC-Viewer: the sectioning-display is subpar to other programs.

I mostly use Navisworks to show different models to customers or for internal discussions and sections do not display "hatched" or "filled", which results in a very "unclean" display. This is especially true for infrstructure-projects where there's often a couple of thin layers on top of each other.

I know that this feature has been requested many times and was considered unfeasable by the team but the competitors are able to do it and it'd go a really long way, imho.

Just a quick example: Solibri on the left, Navisworks on the right.

On the left image the geometry is immediately tangible while it takes some time to comprehend the geometry on the right picture. When moving around in the model (zooming, paning) the effect is even amplified.

SolibirNavisworks.png

Adding this to Navisworks - especially in combinations with the alignment tools - would be chefs kiss! 🙂
