Navisworks Freedom move object / assembly

Hi all,

We are currently transitioning from design review to view dwf files and I have come across a problem with moving objects. I cant seem to work out how to do it, is it possible in freedom?

I have searched the help files and come across the move Gizmo but the link to the transform gizmo help is broken. Has this feature been removed? Is there any other way to move parts of an assembly within Navisworks freedom?

Unfortunately, you cannot move objects neither in Design Review nor in Freedom. Only in Simulate or Manage You can “override” an object’s position by holding onto the item while navigating and then dropping it in a new position, or move it by overriding it's transform. and all these overrides can always be reset to its original position at any time.

I do not wish to change the original file and save parts in there moved position. Sometimes our project managers or manual writers like to view the model files and move assemblies around and take some screen shots.

You can move and rotate parts in Design Review 2013 there is a "Move and Rotate" command in the tools panel. This allows you to select assemblies and move them no screen with a UCS "gizmo". Very similar to the way it works in Navisworks manage.

I have also managed to move parts in Freedom using the measure method and transfer selected items, this is not a very user friendly way and was hoping that the gizmo method was available in Freedom like it is in Manage.

It can be done with Freedom 2016 and above:

Sometimes you may want to move an Object temporary to see if it can pass trough existing objects.

This also can be done with Navisworks Freedom. The procedure is the following:

  • Make a Point to Point measurement of the displacement you want to see. Make the measurement in the right from-to direction.
  • While the measurement is shown, select the object(s) you want to displace.
  • Then, under the Review tab, click the arrow next to Measure and press “Transform Selected Objects”

Yeah I managed to work that method out but its not very user friendly. I was hoping the "Gizmo" drag method was available in Freedom.

Thanks for the update. I didn’t notice the Move & Rotate tool in ADR before (always use it with 2D DWFs). There’s also the Explode model tool in A360 viewer that enables you to separate the parts of the model then you can zoom in to the parts.
