Mouse Jumping

When I select an object in Navisworks, the mouse jumps to a corner on my screen on the first selection.  After I make a selection and go to select something else, no jump.  Anyone had this problem or knows how to fix this?  Using 2018.

A few things I would check, is the software, and OS up to date? Also, are you using the most recent mouse driver? Is this a standard mouse? Are you also using a 3DConnexion mouse? Do you happen to have any other peripherals or input devices plugged in?

Everything is current, updated, and still happens.  I am using a Logitech Wireless Trackball, same one i have used since forever, and just started happening recently.  It happens on all my models.  I have used different USB ports, different mice both wired and wireless with no improvement.

@jhembree4FL66 -

Thank you for that information. This is only happening when Revit is in use, I'm assuming. I'd like to clear some basic troubleshooting before we dive too deep. Could you please let me know if you're using any add-ins?

Revit or no revit, it still happens regardless of if it is open.  There's no add-ins aside from Bluebeam that i can see.

@jhembree4FL66

To clarify, this is happening even with Revit closed?

Thank you. This sounds like this is an issue with Windows as opposed to the Autodesk software. I did do some research quickly on this. It seems to be related to a mouse driver update, or a touch pad if you have one. I would definitely recommend reaching out to Windows support or checking forums related to Windows.

@jhembree4FL66 I apologize, I meant to type Navisworks when I was typing Revit. Is this happening when Navisworks is closed?

If it was a windows problem and driver, wouldn't it happen all the time on other applications?

Message 11 of 15

No, when i am using Navisworks in a model.

Hello @jhembree4FL66,

This sounds incredibly odd. Where this was not happening before, and suddenly started, has there been any change in the machine environment about the time the issue started up? Check for the following:

  • Windows updates, These should be noted in the control panel under 'View Installed Updates'
  • New programs installed recently

To rule out program interference, you could also test a selective startup to see if that allows things to work properly. This article notes the Revit selective startup, but the same steps should work for Navisworks as well: How to perform a selective startup in Windows

Also, something could have become damaged in the Windows profile. Do you have other user accounts you are able to test logging in on? If not you can unlock the hidden administrator account: Enable the (Hidden) Administrator Account on Windows 7, 8, or 10

If those don't start to narrow things down, I have a couple questions:

  • Is this happening in all Navisworks files?
  • To clarify, when you select the first object, the mouse jumps, and selecting subsequent objects there is no longer a jump. Does the jump start up again next time you put together a selection set, or does this only happen once in a file?
  • Does the mouse jump to a consistent position every time? Or is it erratic?
  • Does this happen with multiple versions of Navisworks, or only one specifically?

Thank you in advance for the extra information and tests! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Seems to only happen in 2018 Navisworks.  Opened a model in 2016 and no jump.  The pointer goes to 1 spot when i first select something, then if I select another object while having the first object selected, no jump.  Just tried a modify and reinstall and luck.

Hello @jhembree4FL66,

If I understand correctly, the modify and reinstall got things working? If so, awesome! To better help anyone having this issue in the future, you can Accept your own comment as a solution, this increases find-ability within our search engine in the forums.

When I have the Properties window open my mouse will sometimes jump to its bottom scroll bar. I haven't identified any pattern or circumstance that causes it though.
