Merge multiple IFC files into 1 "combined" IFC file.

Hi all,

So i've been trying to figure out a way to combine 6 IFC files i got from subcontractors and merge them into 1 single IFC file.

Reasons why i want to accomplish this is the fact that our colleagues on site can only use Solibri Model Viewer. When i try to combine these IFC files into a new Revit project and try to export only having these IFC files visible in view nothing happens...

I figured to try the same in Navisworks but can't export to IFC there.

Do any of you guys have workarounds or an actual solution to solve this annoying issue? 🙂

Thanks!

iConstruct (addin for Navisworks) allows you to export IFC files https://iconstruct.com/feature/smart-ifc4-exporter/. I have not personally used that tool in iConstruct to tell you how well it does or does not work.

BIMServer might be an option (I have never tried it) https://wrw.is/how-to-merge-ifc-files-for-free-and-how/

You could also import the IFC files into another authoring app and then re-export, but there would more than likely be some kind of data degradation.

Please mark this response as "Accept as Solution" if it answers your question.

I can confirm iConstruct allows for IFC export

Although the output IFC file size is very large.

There are multiple options for the output.

I am not aware of any other plugin that can do it.

Hi,

In XbimXplorer you can create federated model and save it to new IFC file.

Hello,

This clip shows you how you can merge two IFC-files into one "combined" file using the IFC-viewer BIMvision.

I hope you find this to be informative.

You can also use Simlebim https://simplebim.com/  for merging ifc models. And the tool does also great job in cleaning up messy ifc's and has a lot of usefull functions. The program has a full function 30-day trial version. It's really worth it to check out and has an acceptable pricing.

That's possible as well using other IFC viewers, such as bimcollab zoom. But It doesn't save the two models into a single IFC file.
